A bit more expensive but worth it.

This battery replaces the old Eliminator, but still has the same specs. That battery lasted about 7 years or so. I only mow my lawn every two weeks or so, and it only takes me about an hour. Using it so little is actually harder on a battery than using it more regularly. I charged up that battery using my smart charger and stored it in my house over the winter, then I charged it up again just before mowing my lawn--usually in May. These batteries are a bit more expensive, but they are worth it. I'm please with how long it lasted.

For a large displacement lawn tractor engine, I always buy the largest CCA battery I can. They seem to last longer as they are less stressed during the heavy demand of the starter motor.

Q: Is this battery maintainance free? Like when I store it for the winter should I check the liquid level? Can't see how to open the top to check the liquid level

  • A: Yes it’s maintenance free but if stored should charge it every couple of months or attach a maintainer charger to it. A battery will sulfate and discharge over time if just left in the corner during the off season.

Q: How many amps does this battery have? Not cold cranking amps

  • A: I was only concerned about cold cranking as it is used in a tractor for a snowblower. If your using for other applications go for a deep cycle.

Q: I've bought this battery, and need to know the amp hours. I am hooking it to a battery monitor. Please advise ah.

1 Answer
  • A: This is a 'starting' battery, designed to start a small engine. It is not designed for cycling use therefore we do not publish an amp hour rating. If used in a cycling application, the battery will be damaged in short order as it is not designed for that purpose. For a similar size battery that IS designed for cycling use, please consider model 010-2051.

Q: What is "core charge" for aq lawn tractor battery?

1 Answer
  • A: A Core Charge, sometimes called a Casting Charge, is a form of deposit you pay on a car part, in this case, a lead-acid battery, until returning your old part. If you don't have the old part at the time of purchase, you must pay the core charge. That charge is refunded to you when you return the part. The Core Charge is like a bottle deposit, but in this case it is a car part deposit that encourages you to recycle.

Q: Would this be a suitable battery for a Minn Kota trolling motor?

1 Answer
  • A: Definitely not. This battery is designed for "starting" (an engine) and using it for a "cycling" application (such as a trolling motor) would destroy it after only a few uses. A trolling motor generally requires at least a 70 Ah deep cycle battery - please consider a MotoMaster Nautilus dual purpose, deep cycle or AGM battery. They are available in Group Sizes 24, 27 and 31. If you're looking for a battery with a small size and you can live with only a couple hours of run time, you might be able to get away with the MotoMaster AGM Group Size U1 (model 010-2051).
