    Optomistic voltage reading

Alway reads .5 volt lower than what battery voltage is used on a fishing boat to check trolling batteries always said they were 50% despite being brand new motormaster natilus deepcycle battery (and fully charged ) from crapytire at same time but after it got wet it started actually ready proper voltage but not it stoped working

    Poor Bargain

This device is a poor bargain. There are no instructions. The connector is an SAE connector. There is no standard to determine whether the exposed connector is (+) or (-), so your chances of plugging it in backwards is 50-50. If it just showed +xxV or -xxV (which is technically simple), it would be much more useful. I have no idea what the switch is for; mine turned on when I plugged it in.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Questions

    1 - 8 of 8 Questions

Q: If I attach this product to each of my batteries connected in parallel will it provide an accurate reading for each battery?

    4 Answers
    • A: Batteries connected in parallel will have the same voltage unless one or more are defective. If you connect 4x6V in parallel, you will have a 6V pack with more amps; a meter will read 6V-ish. The meter should show that. To get 12V you need to connect two batteries in series, in which case you will get the sum of the voltages. Parallel connect two sets of two in series gives you 12V with more Amps.

Q: Is this unit waterproof and able to be left connected all the time? Thank you

    2 Answers
    • A: I would say no to both. I wouldn't want to get it wet and it's not in-line, that is, you unplug your solar panel or whatever and plug this in in its place. So it wouldn't be practical to leave it plugged in all the time.

    1 Answer
    • A: This product is able to quickly check the charge status of 12V battery and LCD displays battery voltage with 3 levels – 1) Red LED: When the voltage is less than or equal to 12.4V (discharged level), 2) Orange/Yellow LED: 12.4V-12.6V (low level), 3) Green LED: When the voltage is greater than or equal to 12.6V (full level). Additionally, please note that Green and Red will not light in one LED light.

Q: I did connect the Status indicator to a battery with the clips from my Solar Panel. To get a reading the black clip is on the positive of the battery and the red is on the negative. Why ?

    1 Answer
    • A: Because the polarity of SAE connector of your solar panel clamps is wire opposite to MotoMaster.

Q: What is input voltage 115V applied to this 12V MotoMaster tester ? Confused when reading it's detail spec sheet. Please clarify

    1 Answer
    • A: This product is strictly for use with 12-volt (nominal) lead-acid batteries. It simply plugs into the SAE eyelet lead (not included) connected to your battery to give a quick and accurate readout of battery state of charge.

Q: Mine reads 12.3v. And the top light is lit up red... what does red mean? The picture shows the top light being green... should come with some sort of little instruction page

    1 Answer
    • A: A battery at 12.3V requires charging (thus the red LED). Fully charged would be 12.6V+ (which would yield a green LED).

Q: Does this device remain on (i.e. is it constantly drawing battery power) or does it shut off completely until the switch is turned on? I am planning on installing this on my boat and would like to leave it permanently installed so I can always check.

    1 Answer
    • A: Anytime a connection is made, it provides a reading for about 5 seconds. If left connected permanently, it is always OFF and only turns ON (for about 5 seconds) when the reading button is pressed. This is a perfect device for your application - pair it with a set of ring terminal leads and you've got a quick, simple and economical battery gauge.
