I use Motomaster products regularly and trust their quality. Knowing this oil is from Shell is a safe bet of it being a good choice.

Questions

Q: Friction modifiers? Just wondering if there are any friction modifiers in this oil? I was wondering if I can use it in my motorcycle, but it has a wet clutch. IS THIS STUFF WET CLUTCH AGREEABLE?

4 Answers
  • A: DON'T use modern automotive engine oils in your motorcycle with a wet clutch. If your motorcycle specifies a JASO MA or MA2 oil as many do, then use a motorcycle oil (of a matching weight for your machine) that meets that JASO spec - your bearings and your clutch will be happier for longer. Oils are similar if you spill them and need to mop up, but if you want them to protect in an engine (or engine/transmission/clutch), it's important to use oil of the correct specification.

Q: Is this 100% full synthetic oil or blend?

  • A: If it is a BLEND, it will say it's a BLEND. But it doesn't! So, it is a full synthetic oil.

Q: Does Canadian Tire take back used oil from this product?

  • A: Most Provinces have legislation that if a company sells motor oil it must collect the used motor oil. Quebec legislation has a lot of grey reading, but from what I can determine, since Canadian Tire sells a Motomaster Brand, It is required to collect and recycle. Any Canadian Tire Store I have ever visited is very friendly and very willing to accept used oil.

Q: What grade is this? Under 'Features' it says API SP, but 'Specifications' lists it as SN and the label on the bottle picture says "SN Plus" - they're not the same.

  • A: Why hasn't Canadian tire corrected this issue from two years ago now? The product # on the website #0208-8715-8 is the product number used for the type of oil API SERVICE SN. In the stores you will see the this product # is on the jugs of API SERVICE AP OIL. This is not the same type of oil!!!! The store in Cranbrook, BC has "ZERO" API service SN MotorMaster oil in stock. Management didn't seem to concerned when i brought up the discrepancy listed on the website and the product # on the AP Type oil. When asked if i can get a Rain check i was told no because they have product # 028-8715-8 in stock ???????? Unacceptable service on the part of Canadian tire.......

Q: Can this be used with 2006 Mercedes ML350 gas engine?

2 Answers
  • A: The problem here is that MB publishes it's own list of approved oils (google Mercedes 229.5# and this oil isn't on it. This does not mean that bad things will happen if you use the Motomaster 5W50, only that CTC #or rather Shell) has not submitted it to MB for approval. That said, the thickest viscosity approved for you engine is 5w40, so regardless of quality you should probably shy away from any 5w50. For a couple bucks more than the F1 5w50, CTC carries the Mobil 1 0w40 which is on the approved list.
