I went shopping for a new gas water heater and compared the Moffat G6 with the G9 model.
The G6 had more information on the description.
What does the 6 and 9 stand for?
I asked at the store counter and the employee told me it was life expectancy of the tank.
I took that as the truth and bought the G9 model,hoping it had the G6 features and more.
I had to travel out of my City to buy one as supply is limited.

Troublesome vent

Heating water hasn't been the issue with this unit. It's the damper setup, if the damper doesn't complete it's cycle the heater won't fire and you jump into a cold shower. Don't buy a unit with this damper, seems like a good idea but too much trouble.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: You say that you say you need electricity because it has a damper, but on the site for the six yr heater, you say the 9 yr. heater doesn't have a damper, thus no hydro needed for it What's up?

Q: What does mean EF 0.62 or EF 0.67, I need to replace my 50 gallon tank and few thing are confusing or make me doubt between G6 and G9 like drip tub ??? That this will do in my life if I dont have this on my tank ?

A: EF is the energy factor. The higher the energy factor the more efficient the tank is. The G6 and G9 are warranty length’s, 6 and 9 year tank warranty. The drip tube leads the water from the T&P valve to the ground to help avoid splashing.

A: The dimensions are: 47and 3/4 inches is the height to the top of the tank and 22 inches diameter Install height is 51 and 1/2 inches.

Q: Does the Moffat G9 40 Gallon Conventional Gas Water Heater 063-1178-2 have a Power Flue Damper ? What is the difference between this model and the Moffat G6 41 Gallon Conventional Gas Water Heater 063-1180-4 ?

A: No, it does not include a power damper. The difference with the 063-1178 and 063-1180 is 9 year warranty, brass drain valve and include a drip tube, versus the 6 year warranty and neither of those two additions.

Q: I have no chimney but unit will be installed next to an outside wall. We can vent unit directly outside, using a double wall duct with both intake and exhaust through the same duct. Is this a direct vent model we can use for this application ?
