Moen Retreat 24-in Wall Mount Double Towel Bar, Brushed Nickel

We have had this for a couple years and have had it repeatedly loosen and want to fall off the wall. One side is into a stud, and the other side uses their provided wall anchors. The anchors do not grip well or stay tight. I could see a big mess with a major wall repair happening, so I took it down while I considered how to get a block in behind the drywall. Well, I got actual support in the wall and remounted it, and within days it popped off the included bracket. The screws held solid, but the bracket bent! I really can't believe how cheaply the wall mount system is made, and it really makes me question how long some moen mirrors we have that use the same mount will stay up. My final solution was to take some 1/4x3/4" aluminum bar stock I had laying around and cut it and drill it and make my own brackets. It took me half an hour to make the parts and improve on moen's design. They should pay me for product design and real world quality control. I set a rule with my wife when we got our house that is it doesn't go into a stud I'm not hanging it on the wall. My fault for breaking my own rule. The screw holes on these brackets are so close together that there's no way you drill two holes that close together and not weaken the drywall dramatically. By the way, on the moen mirrors we hung, I used one of their included anchors on each side, and for the second screw used one of those screw in anchors that I have a lot more faith in. I hate buying something and proceeding to repair or improve on it just to make it function as intended.

Just built a new home and needed a towel bar that would accommodate 2 towels in the same space -- this one did it!

I originally bought this product 4 years ago. My son decided to break it and needed to replace it. The new mounting system is extremely cheap by comparison to the original product that I bought and is more expensive to boot! The old mount had the set screw about an inch off of the wall, which made it very easy to tighten the set screw. The new mount has the set screw right against the wall, which makes it a lot more difficult to turn the allen wrench to tighten the set screw. After seeing the way that Moen's product has been reduced in quality, I have to wonder if Moen did the same with the rest of their products. I doubt I will ever buy another moen product. If the rest of my bathroom wasn't the same style, I would have returned the towel bar and bought a better quality product. I am extremely disappointed in moen. Moen stood for a quality product at a reasonable price. That is no longer the case.
