This fertilizer is sold by weight, so one doesn't know how many spikes are in the package. Despite the picture on the package, there was no cap to place over the spike for hammering into the ground. I use a trowel to dig a hole, so it didn't matter to me. I can't say how effective the fertilizer is, though, as so many factors affect tree growth and I won't see any effects until next spring. One hopes that the company holds to quality and honesty. I had to check 3 Canadian Tire stores to find this fertilizer -- only evergreen fertilizer was left at two of them.

A: Hi, Since Boxwoods are evergreens, I would suggest the Miracle Gro Evergreen spikes, which are similar but have a slightly different N-P-P formula. If you already have the Tree & Shrub product on hand, go ahead and use it as it will still be effective. I have used both varieties for years, in the early Spring and late Fall snd found their sustained-release formulation works very well. I hope this helps.
