Metabo HPT MultiVolt Lithium Ion Battery (36V 4.0Ah / 18V 8.0Ah)

I have been using this platform or around 5 years or so and changed from dewalt 20v. I use the 36volt hammerdrill, impact, most saws, sander, router, and vac. I bought in when they where giving these batteries as a promo after buying kits or tools. I am happy with the quality of the tools with minor issues which all brands have. The 5 or 2.5 amp hour batteries have been great. I have 7 toal 4 old style and 3 new. All working well. The two things I have not been happy with is the 36v 7 1/4 mitre saw which I sold and changed. And the 8 or 4amp hour batteries. These batteries do not last like the smaller version. Out of 5 I started with 2 are still working. The other three have died out over the last 2 years. I hope Metabo will come up with an updated version of this battery that will last because It would be nice to have the run time. But would not spend money on these considering the cost and How quickly they burn out. I do have other batteries this size for a table saw(Red) That seem to much better quality. I hope to see a better version soon and putting this up to help others considering purchasing these.

Charger is fine, like that it works with both 18v and 36v but one battery I have was not used much and is dead, it looks new!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I feel stupid for being excited about a charger but this one is very cool. I primarily use the 36v batteries for most things so they have a longer run time but this fast charger can fully charge one before the one I’m using runs down so there’s no waiting between swaps. I also feel stupid because I didn’t notice the USB charger until I picked up a second one. I charge my headphones, Bluetooth speaker, phone, or mobile battery pack with it nearly every day. When working at house with no power I was able to charge my phone from one of the tool batteries. It is the first thing I plug in when I start a new job.

I purchased these batteries to replace same that seemingly died a premature death. The previously purchased batteries saw light use over a couple of years, within climate controlled conditions, and were never left discharged. I’ve purchased these replacements because I’m heavily invested in the Metabo HTP/ Hitachi system, with a multitude of cordless tools, including a table saw, belt sander, router, grinder, die grinder, 15 gauge trim nailer, 18 gauge trim nailers, 20 gauge stapler, framing nailer, and compressor, among others. As a result, my hope is for these batteries to carry me through to a point where Metabo HPT offers a version that corrects the premature failure problem. I love these tools, but the batteries are problematic. I’m confident in my assessment, as I have other batteries that have seen much greater use, under less ideal conditions, that are over 20 years old, and are still going strong. I’ll also add that I have corded Hitachi tools, purchased in the late eighties that perform flawlessly, and are still used regularly. These batteries are the first time I’ve been disappointed in this brand, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the problem will be corrected.
