Does its job well but after only 3 or 4 uses it now takes for ever to retract the piston. Very frustrating.

Q: Hi, Are the work plates removable? And does the manual come with a detailed drawing including all dimensions? (I would need it in order to create a 3D model of an assembly which will include this machine).

  • A: Yes, the press plates are removable as they are not fixed in place. Regrettably, the User Manual does not have detailed drawings with dimensions. The current manual is available from the “additional info” tab on the product page, if you wish to review it before purchase.

Q: What's the width between the black vertical supports? For rear wheel bearings, I need to pass an axle tube tool through the press platform. (To gain the extra height, I'll put it on the Workmate bench as someone else suggested here.)

  • A: distance is 13 3-8 inches or 340 mm, but an axle tube would be restricted by the 110 mm or 4.25 inch between the horizontal pieces at the base of the stand. The vertical distance between bottom and top frame is 600 mm

Q: I’m wondering if I can use this with a pneumatic/hydraulic foot pump and if anyone has tried it before

2 Answers
  • A: It's a very basic circuit, so you could modify it to use a foot operated pump. You couldn't use a pneumatic foot pump, as this is a hydraulic circuit. However, this is a single acting cylinder, so you would still need some method to return oil to tank. The small design details are tricky and doing this could easily backfire (I'm a fluid power technician). The simplest solution would be to move the existing pump/reservoir (the hose has some extra slack, (and could be extended) and modify the handle to be operated by your foot. What you're asking for could be achieved, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Q: Can I use AW32 hydraulic oil in this press?

  • A: Definitely not!!! That’s not good oil for this unit, it will fail soon if you do !!

Q: What kind of oil does this model use and can I get it at Canadian Tire, if it needs topping up?

2 Answers
  • A: Takes normal hydraulic oil, pretty sure they sell it there and it will require topping up. Tends to leak past the ram seals. Especially in a warm environment.

Q: Could I setup an air powered hydraulic pump on it instead of the manual one?

2 Answers
  • A: Would be a simple install to replace the hand pump. Be careful not to exceed the ten tonne limit of the press.

Q: How do you check the oil level?

1 Answer
  • A: Let the product fully reset, and then remove the oil filter nut (P07). Through the oil hole you can see if the oil level has flooded the tire rod (P05).

Q: Same question as above. Nowhere else does the manual mention what to do with the furnished air supply. Also tried to bleed the cylinder which sustained shipping damage and no pressure develops and cylinder does not move.

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your question, please see the manual instructions below to resolve. 1. Open the breather valve (P9) counter-clockwise by 1 1/2 turns. 2. Turn the and release valve (P15) counter-clockwise by 1 1/2 turns. 3. Wait for the ram to fully retract, then pump the handle (P39) rapidly 20 to 25 times (with the release valve open). 4. Firmly close the release valve (P15) by turning it clockwise. 5. Pump the handle (P39) up and down to supply pressure for starting the work. 6. After completing the job, slowly and carefully turn the release valve counter-clockwise (never more than one turn) to release the pressure until the ram retracts to desired position. 7. Close the breather valve (P9) when the work is completed.

Q: I am unable to develop pressure.  I have opened the bleeder screw.  I have tried to remove air with the release open and pumping quickl.  With the release closed I no pressure develops.  "before initial use a pressured air supply must be furnished" ????
