if you buy it make sure it's on sale

Bought it for 179.99 on sale. Batteries both became defective just under five years. Like all these tools, it costs more to replace the batteries than to buy a new unit. I just wish one company would step up to bat and offer replacement parts at a reasonable price. We've definitely become a throw away society and that's just not right.

No, I do not recommend this product.

There nothing wrong with the drill, but The handle comes with the drill fell into pieces when adapted with my 6 inch ice argue while drilling wholes on ice. Store says this type is discontinued, I could only exchange for the ones they have in store, which is less powerful than this one, which I doubt won’t be powerful enough to drill the ice, so I am stuck here

No, I do not recommend this product.

Maximum - can't go wrong

As a home handy man/DIY guy I've used various brands of power tools over the years and I've found Maximum to be a solid performer. I've used DeWalt, Milwaukee, Bosch, Makita and others and when Maximum are on sale I'll reach for them every time. About 12, 13 years ago I bought my first Maximum variable spd drill/impact driver combo. Those 2 units get used all year and have never failed me. Batteries are still the originals too. The drill is slipping occasionally and the chuck sometimes locks up on me but I think those faults are due to me dropping the drill in the river 3 yrs ago. Still works though. I bought this brushless 1/2 inch drill recently when it went on sale in the event my old one gives up the ghost some day. Came with 2 batteries and charger which are interchangeable with my old tools and batteries. That's a nice bonus.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 6 of 6 Questions

Q: Is the high pitched whine at mid to high rpms normal? I did not experience this with my last three drills. It is loud enough that hearing protection is probably warranted.

2 Answers
  • A: Brushless drills run at a much higher RPM when there is no load. Therefore, you may experience a higher pitch whine when operating the drill with no load. The sound should become normalized when you apply load, i.e. screwing or drilling. However, if you believe the whine is excessive, you may choose to take the drill to an authorized service center to determine if they believe it is excessive. If you wish to use this option, please call 1-888-670-6682 to determine a nearby service center.

Q: Bag instead of case? How's the bag provided with it? Is it protecting the drill well enough? Can I get a plastic protor case?

  • A: The bag its in works good but I do like the protected hard plastic cases much better .

Q: What lbs do the torque settings relate to?

1 Answer
  • A: The lowest setting of your clutch will deliver approximately 180-ft lbs. of torque. The intermediate settings increase from this value but actual measurement is difficult to assess as individual tools compress the spring mechanism differently, this is true for all power tools. The only setting that can be measured with confidence is the highest setting of 550-ft lbs. where the mechanism is fully compressed.

Q: Unit Watts Out? I am wondering why the Maximum brand uses inch Pounds of Torque rather than Unit Watts Out? Is there a formula for converting one to the other? Thanxs!

1 Answer
  • A: There is no formula available to convert between UWO and in-lbs. UWO is a particular torque claim measurement only used by DeWalt.
