Great for cutting small bolts

We bought this because we wanted to replace the kitchen cabinet handles. When we got the handles they all came with bolts that could be cut at multiple lengths but we had no way to cut them. These cut through the bolts with minimal effort. Does exactly what we hoped they would do.

Mastercraft 8-in Mini Bolt Cutter – Disappointing for wire cutting Purchased at Canadian Tire

I bought the Mastercraft 8-in Mini Bolt Cutter (alloy-steel head, 1/8-in cutting capacity) because the price was very low. For cutting wire, however, the performance was terrible. Most of the time I had to hit the cutter with a hammer 10–15 times just to get through a piece of wire – that defeats the purpose of a bolt cutter entirely. I never tried it on an actual bolt, so I can’t speak to that. But if you need a tool to cut wire cleanly and efficiently, this isn’t it. You get what you pay for – and in this case, even the low cost isn’t worth the frustration.

Bought these after marring my flush cutters on memory wire. It was cheaper to get these bolt cutters than to buy memory wire shears. No regrets, they work great.

  • A: The mini bolt cutter (SKU 58-2001) is not able to cut 2/0 AWG copper wire because of its capacity, 1/8" (3.1mm) at maximum. The 2/0 AWG wire measures 0.3648” (9.27mm).
