great tool

Great value for the money. I do a lot of grinding and zip cutting on structural steel. I normally spend 2-3 hours at a time on steel.

Nifty little Grinder

Works well, but the guard collars should be simpler (no quick change design) so the guards can be rotated at any angle for ease of use.

Great grinder but it on sale.

Great grinder for the price. Used to strip paint from deck. Paid for itself in the first day. Much better results then pressure washer and stripper combined

Q: This is regarding the 6A angle grinder with cutting wheels. Can the cutting this wheel cut, a 2 feet metal sheet (18 gauge) in a continuous run. certain reviews on other brands have negative views on the cutting ability. How is this Mastercraft model?

  • A: As long as you have a good cutoff wheel and rake your time the should be no problem

Q: It says it has a 5/8 inch bore. Does it include an adapter so that cutting wheels with a 7/8 inch bore could be used?

2 Answers
  • A: That answer is incorrect. Yes, the arbor is 5/8 and will take 5/8 threaded attachments, but the backing flange and threaded nut for holding non-threaded disks have a flange to 7/8 hole size, so that it is intended to take 7/8 bore wheels. In fact, the included grinding wheel and cutoff wheel are 7/8 bore.

Q: why is this grinder not recommended for wire brushing? Which one is? The manual says this tool is not recommended for wire brushing. I bought it for this use alone. I need to remove some rust. Should I return it? Which one should I get?

  • A: I could say lots about this grinder but it was for the version just befor this one and it was junk ! It never saw any heavy duty work & was treated well. It died just shortly after the warranty ran out. As I can usually fix most things, I took it apart only to find that the bearings were gone. All that was left was the inner and outer race. This renders the tool useless ! I wish I had bought it on sale. Maybe a bit more money but I would strongly recomend a Makita.

Q: What kind of grinder and how much amperes do i need for cutting metal ?

1 Answer
  • A: It is not possible to answer your question as there are too many factors to consider, such as frequency, gauge of metal, etc. Using a metal cutting disc and allowing the tool to do the work, i.e., don't apply excessive pressure to get a quicker cut, this grinder can cut through most common metal applications. Larger amperage grinders will allow you to apply greater pressure, to get a faster cut, without burning out the motor. If you are doing one-off applications, you will be fine with a 6A or 9A grinder. If you are doing production type applications, look to a greater amperage, or go to a brushless cordless grinder such as the Maximum 40V grinder.

Q: Can you use straight (not depressed) cut off wheels with this grinder? Manual on page 17 says Depressed centre wheel must be used with included flanges... does that mean you can't use non depressed because you can't install any disc without the flanges?

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, you can use flat discs, as long as they have a 5/8" bore.

Q: Will it work on stone , taking off 1/8 inch

1 Answer
  • A: The tool is capable of grinding stone and concrete. You do not describe the total surface area you are attempting to remove 1/8". If extensive, the tool will require 'rests' throughout the operation and pressure applied should not be severe. The tool also comes with a metal application disc. You may benefit from purchasing masonry discs if your task is more than a simple reduction.
