Q: Hi, I want to cut metal panels with 1/2-inch ribs (https://vicwest.com/agricultural-products/channel-wall-cl508). The thickness of the panel is well below the 20 gauge minimum, but will the rib present a problem?

A: The panels I cut did not have sharp corners on the ribs so worked fine. However when doing eavestroughs the 90degree required either coming in from bot sides to the corner or slightly bending it back (which is what I did) so the tool could make the bend. For me it's saved me so much time and leaves a very nice edge. Way cleaner than a power saw, way less distorted than cutters (hand) and way faster than an oscillating tool.

A: The metal shear works well on most types of metal channel wall as long as it is a low profile as the one described. High rib profiles, not so much. Like manual metal snips, the cut edge does get flattened slightly at the profile changes, which is minimal.

Q: Can it be used to cut VCT (Vinyl) tile?

A: Normal VCT can sometimes be cut with scissors depending on the thickness. This tool is made for the purpose of cutting sheet metal, so it will cut through VCT tile with ease. Our concern would be the ability to make a clean straight cut which is important when installing VCT Tile because you need it to fit flush.
