STIFF IN THE COLD

Left this cord outside overnight with -25c temp to see if the end hardens (3plug) to the point it won't fully accept the male end. It failed the test. Could only get the male end 1/2 way in. Rock hard. Plus the cord itself was stiff as a board. Definitely not make for below 0 temps. I'll be in returning it.

Q: Is it normal that for the same product number there are two different models? One is 30' with a single locking connecter as described on the website while a second model is 25' with a three headed fan shape power block. Thank you

Q: Hi, I have the 50ft 12 gauge version of this wire. Can I run the 50ft cable with this 30ft cable back to back to increase the length of my extension cord to a total of 80ft? (50ft + 30 ft 12guage)? I need it for my 13 amps lawn mower.

  • A: It is true that there is a drop as the distance gets greater which also is consistent with the gauge of the cable and the load demanded, but if you are using a 12 gauge the resistance gets lower based on the surface of the cable since it keeps the temperature of the cable lower than a 16 or a 14 due to the surface that the electrons have to move and produce the electromagnetic energy necessary for a 13 amp mower. Such 13 amps nominal demand at operation is way below the 80% of the maximum capacity of such 12 gauge. Of course, take into account that your breaker should be 15 amps if standard. A 20 amp breaker would be too much to respond to a ground or arc fault fast enough to avoid damages . If your panel has a GFCI or AFCI breaker connected to that circuit ,than nothing to worry about. My recommendation is to first connect to the wall outlet a 15 amp short extension with a fault interrupter incorporated and then connect the other two extension cords to it and you are ready to go. It is the safest immediate solution. Always cheque the cable factory wrap for cracks or exposed wires and the Main Safety precaution, the Most Vital, At All Moments, Never lose sight of where your cable is around your mower at all times. Your life is more important than any yard grass or anything else whatsoever.

Q: What is the temperature rating for this cord...need something to stay flexible in minus 25c for a block cord heater.

1 Answer
  • A: The best product for this application would be the CTC# 052-2413 Block Heater Extension Cord. It remains flexible down to -40C.
