started hammering only after drilling a few holes

Unlike other reviewers complaining that their rotary hammer died after drilling just a few holes, my, conversely, started hammering after drilling 5 holes. It drilled the first 5 somehow and too long. Then after the 5th hole it started hammering and drilling the subsequent 3 holes took just a few seconds. Strange behavior to which I have no explanation except that hammer switch is faulty and started working only after the drill warmed up.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Price to quality not great

This could be a lot better. Spend some more money and get one that will last and stand up to the jobs you had in mind.

    Not bad for the price

I too have used higher end products but I don't need a Bosch or Makita or Milwaukee for 4 to 5 times the price or more. I own a brick home with a cinder block basement and a rock face that extends the full width of my property and about 40 feet in height as part of my back yard. During the 3 year warranty for this piece I might have to get it replaced a couple times but I will get done the work I need done and I am a homeowner so I am not generally in a hurry for what this will do that my other tools will not. If I have to get it replaced under warranty a couple times or more I am not going to be unhappy. IF I was a pro needing a pro tool I would have paid the price of the pro tools! You get what you pay for and this is the best deal in Rotary Hammers I have found bar none, especially on sale for $60!

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Pathetic

I registered just to write this out. This thing only lasted long enough to drill about 20 holes into concrete. Then suddenly it started failing...intermittent for a couple, and then nothing. Taking it back tomorrow. Don't bother. Spend the money and buy a good one.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: better then normal hammer drill? is this drill more effective drilling concrete then a standard hammer drill with a 1/2" keyed chuck?

    1 Answer
    • A: Tough question to answer. The Rotary hammer uses an electro pneumatic action to drill in concrete and generates a lot of power in a relatively long thrust of the bit. We recommend the 54-1277 for holes up to 3/8” in concrete. It provides more power in a smaller package than a typical hammer drill. A typical ½’ hammer drill will provide capacity of 3/8” or ½” depending on the tool and delivers high speed minute thrusts to create a hammer action. The tool is bigger and heavier than the 54-1277 rotary hammer. On smaller holes both will do the job,
