Had a real bad flooding in my home basement, I has a small 1/4 hp pump that you connect to garden hose, it would not keep up. I bought this one and it has saved me thousands from basement flooding, My wife owns and runs a daycare in our basement. We have lived here for 25 years, because of the grade of my driveway, and my property is lower on 3 sides with my neighbors so we have had some heavy rains in warmer months which was bad enough, but in winter now on the East Coast it is not unheard of Temps that we get rain and frozen ground which multiply the risk of flooding. The power of this pump moves quite a bit of standing water, in a short time. My two daughters have also used, one for an above ground pool, the other one has even more basement flooding up to 2 feet, this pump work 100%

Q: Does this have an automatic start and stop when it detects water? And what depth?

A: No, it doesn’t. No switch, just a plug that you plug in an outlet. No automatic start/stop. It will go as deep as the electric cord will reach. It’s about 15 feet long.

Q: Can you connect the male end of an 1 1/2” fire hose directly to the pump? That way the hose can be extended.

A: Hi there, The threaded outlet on the pump is a 1-1/2 NPT so yes it will work.

A: Yes, you can hook it up with a regular garden hose and it came with an adapter when we purchased. Although tie it to the pump! Easy to misplace.

A: Hi Gary1,it's Jeff.That I am not sure of,although that is a great idea.I know that I would have appreciated,being able to have the water go out further on our driveway.If no one thru Canadian Tire can answer that for you,perhaps reach out to the company directly ?.I recently bought one of these,as we experienced water back up,through our basement drains.If you haven't used your's yet,the biggest thing to make sure of,is that when you have the hose unravelled,you really have to make sure,that it is straight and flat and doesn't kink up.Once I had our pump sitting in the water and the hose,was unwound and out through our basement window,I turned the pump on.What I didn't realize,was that outside,the hose,had twisted and caused a back pressure in the hose,which resulted in what should have been outgoing water,to come back through the pump and start spraying into the already wet basement,almost like a 5' nozzle spray.The back pressure opens up an almost invisible pressure outlet,situated in the middle of the top of the pump base,almost like a small bump.between the two housings.I looked to see if there was an owner's manual to read up about this,but there wasn't.I ended up shutting it off,straightening the hose and positioning a bucket,laid on it's side,in front of the pump,in case it backed up again and sprayed.It did and I had to unwind the hose again.This ended up being successful and the remaining water,resided back into the drains.Good luck and I hope that someone can answer your question for you.Take care & stay well,Jeff.
