Cooks difficult meats to tenderness

I was skeptical that this would be a tool that would work that well or that I would use very often. However I had heard great things about how a Sous Vide can cook meat to the perfect tenderness and there happened to be a great sale on these units so I decided to give it a try. This Sous Vide works amazingly well! My favourite is wild game since I find it very difficult to cook properly without it coming out tough. This cooks wild game perfectly. So far I have made elk souvlaki and pork chops and both were a success.

Yes, I recommend this product.

  • A: When we talk Ziploc with Cooking SousVide, you need to select the Freezer Type Bag only. The normal Ziploc is too thin.

Q: Hello, Since the unit does not come with a pot and the pot size is quite exact; does Canadian Tire sell a pot that meets the criteria required? If so; what is the product number?

  • A: I regularly use a large pot but for big jobs like many steaks for a party or a turkey, I cut a hole in the top of a Colman cooler to insert our Anova sous videbwhichbis a similar size. This not only increases size but retains heat better and eliminates evaporation for long cooks. Sous vide turkey is rediculously juicey and second only to deep frying but without the risk of dying :)

Q: this unit appears to have a 3hr timer limit. This makes it virtually useless for long cooks. Remember, sous vide is used for two basic reasons. Texture and Doneness. Can you disable this time?

Q: I recently purchased a Master Chef Sous Vide Cooker. I am relatively new at this method of cooking. I would like to know if the rather loud noise, from the cooker when in cooking mode, is normal ??

  • A: Answered my own question. No, the loud noise when the cooker is operating is not normal. Upon further investigation I discovered that the impeller shaft was rubbing against a gear clamp that holds the heating element together. I moved the clamp away from the impeller shaft. This did not solve the noise issue completely. I also discovered that the heating element was in contact with the outer casing. I moved the heating element slightly with a screwdriver. The cooker is now running at an appropriate sound level. Actually it is now very quiet. I would say I was surprised to see a common gear clamp attached to.the heating element of this unit. Indicative of poor design , engineering??? I have little faith in the longevity of this sous vide cooker. Time will tell !

Q: I can't seem to change the time easily. If I get it work it is always by accident. I have tried holding the button, tapping the button etc. It just switches back to the temperature and then it turns off and I start all over again.

Q: Purchased yesterday and still have not used it. Instruction manual says pot size 7.25" diameter and max 6.5" deep. Appears I'd be unable to cook a sizeable beef roast in that size of pot. Please advise. Thanks. Roy.
