A: This should not be a problem, as long as you correctly attaches to outdoor extension cord.

Q: How long is the string? Can you plug the strings together to make it longer?

A: Lighted length is 20ft Current string light does not have connector for end to end connections. Why? This set is low voltage and the transformer has to the exact wattage of the set or the transformer will not work. Low voltage is very safe for use as the current is extremely low level yet provides a abundance of light.
