Great player

Great little machine (love the size too) - plays just fine. Only thing is, when playing a DVD selecting English spoken but French subtitles it kept playing English subtitles -can't figure why it won't as can do this with other brands of all-region players.

Great little multi-region player

Excellent value. Plays Region 2 (Europe) dvds right out of the box. Simple to set up and use.
As one would expect picture quality is not remarkable, overall--there is no HDMI cable--but is perfectly adequate on a 50" TV. Surprisingly, however, it provides an exceptionally good picture for many old video recording dvds (I find that 'All Creatures Great and Small' looks significantly better on this machine than on much snazzier players).
Remote control unit and navigation is basic but I've seen (and paid more) for worse. Other reviewers have commented negatively on the instruction booklet but I think it's very good.
I was looking for a cheap and cheerful multi-region dvd player and am delighted with this one.

Cheap but does the job!

We purchased this product on sale as we have a "creative" 2 year old and 2 dead DVD players as evidence. :) This one is not fancy, but it plays DVD's just fine and is nice and small. We have been able to place it out of our kids reach as a result of it's size. The only note I would make is that the connections cord is short, so we used a longer one from one of our wrecked DVD players. We only use legal copies of DVD's so I can't speak to the other comments about burnt ones, but it plays the legal ones just fine. I would recommend this to anyone with small children or limited space.

I do not recommend this DVD player. It has trouble playing different kinds of discs like burnt ones. It can be loud during operation as well.

Q: re all region players When you say it plays PAL dvds without a problem, do you mean it converts the PAL to an NTSC tv? or do you need a PAL compatible tv to play the dvds on? Thanks!

A: There is actually a way to select PAL/NTSC/AUTO through the remote control. In my experience you can definitely play Region 2 PAL dvds on a normal Canadian television using this player.

A: I have played a UK-region DVD on it without any problems, or need for any special steps. Just insert and play. But if you do encounter problems, you might want to try the instructions of a previous reviewer on how to turn it into a "multi-region" player. I have listed his instructions below in quotations. (I haven't had the need to try this, so I can't comment on its accuracy). Good luck! I've had this player for almost a year...good product for the money. "To make it multi region: turn on, open disk tray, press 999990 on remote, NOW REGION FREE."

A: DVD movies marketed in North America are designated as region 1. This DVD player is set to ALL region for user's convenient.

Q: spoken/subtitle language? If you select English spoken and select French subtitles it seems to default to English subtitles. (I can do this with other brands of all region players). Is this a limitation in the programming of this player?
