Q: Using this base can you use a 3 prong extension cord to plug in a small freezer?

A: Yes, without problem assuming you wire up base to standard house wiring eg 14/2 gauge for 15A and 12/2 gauge for 20A circuits coming off appropriately rated breaker in electrical panel.
