Heavy and disappointed

Heavy and consistent black/brown residue when washed with dish detergent after cooking with oil. Was unable to determine whether the residual was harmful. Never had this residual black/brown before with any other cast iron frying pans..

Warped and rough

Bought this on sale, I would return it otherwise. Brand new it didn’t sit flat on the stove, it’s warped and rocks back and forth. The cooking surface is incredibly rough making food stick. Do not buy.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

Q: How do I wash this skillet

3 Answers
  • A: Allow pan to come to room temperature before washing. This will help prevent the pan from warping. You can use soap and water to clean pan but it must be thoroughly dried afterward or you risk the pan rusting. The best way to ensure it’s completely dry is to put the pan back in the oven at 200F for 15 minutes or so after towel drying it. Of course, having multiple layers of seasoning will also help protect the pan from rusting.

Q: Got the 10 inch version of this pan for Christmas. Why is the interior of the pan so rough? It will take years to build up enough seasoning to make it an efficient pan.

  • A: Lagostina is cutting corners to save a few pennies per pan. If you have the ability, you can grind down the insides and reseason x3 or 4 times. Eventually, the nice black coating will return. My cheapie old no name pans I've had for 30 years came with a smooth interior and have been excellent right from the beginning.

Q: Was this tested for heavy metals and other harmful substances?

2 Answers
  • A: My guess is no - However - The pan is quite good - note that it is really important to Keep it oiled/seasoned to reduce contact with the Iron - Also keep in mind that Iron will leach into your food no matter what you do. While this may or may not be a good thing for everyone it is the case. To avoid leaching you may want to consider a real enamel coating on an Iron pan - however Creuset etc... or similar pans are FAR more expensive - but they do last forever. Keep in mind that Cast Iron pans and pots are extremely heavy for handling.

Q: Can someone please explain why the inside of the pan has a convex shape? Thank you.

  • A: The convex shape is done during production and once heated, it will cook evenly. If you have more questions, you can contact us at 1.800.418.335 Mon to Fri 8:30 to 5pm EST. Hope this helps.

Q: how do i clean my preseasoned cast iron frying pan. lagostina

1 Answer
  • A: To remove stuck-on food, scrub the pan with a paste of coarse kosher salt and water. Then rinse or wipe with a paper towel. Stubborn food residue may also be loosened by boiling water in the pan. Dry the skillet: Thoroughly towel dry the skillet or dry it on the stove over low heat.
