Kidde Worry-Free 120V Hardwired Talking Smoke and Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm With 10-Year Sealed Battery

$89.99

Product Details

The Kidde i12010SCOCA is a hardwired combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm that contains a 10-year, sealed battery backup. This alarm uses breakthrough technology to offer a fast response to real fires, including smoldering and fast-flaming, as well as protect you from carbon monoxide and dramatically reduce the chance of nuisance alarms. The Intelligent sensor technology combines the detection capabilities of an ionization smoke sensor – which is more likely to detect smaller, less visible fire particles, like those produced by flaming fires – with that of an electrochemical sensor, which is used to detect CO. Since carbon monoxide is present in all fires, having both detection chambers work together in one alarm is a breakthrough in the fire safety industry. When either sensor notices a potential hazard, it will communicate with the other. Depending on what is detected, the alarm will adjust its smoke sensitivity in order to better discriminate between a real hazard and a false one.

  • 2-in-1 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm

  • Features 10 year sealed battery that never needs changing for the life of the alarm

  • Ideal for living areas

  • Hush® Feature – Temporarily silences nuisance alarms for approximately 9 minutes (smoke must be present before Hush® is activated)

  • At the end of alarm life, the unit will chirp, indicating the alarm is in need of replacement

  • Voice Warning – Announces the hazard type detected (in both English and French)

  • Hardwired 120V with 10-year battery backup

  • Test Feature – Simultaneously tests the unit’s electronics and verifies alarm operation

  • Tamper Resist Feature – Unit will lock to mounting bracket to deter theft or tampering

Apple devrait prendre exemple !

Like the Talking Smoke alarm but you will need room in your electrical box

I like the idea of it not having to change the batteries. Hopefully that is true. Only issue is there is an extra bump so you need to make extra room in the electrical box so its flush. If you have lots of wiring, it can be tight. Only reason I am not making it 5 stars.

Q: My Kidde Smoke & CO Alarm model KN-COSM-ICA needs to be replaced. Will this unit be able to replace it easily (e.g. same wiring, same 3-pins at the back, same mounting bracket, same AC Quick Connect Wire, etc.)? Thank you.

1 Answer
  • A: Yes it will. All Kidde hardwired alarms use the same wiring harness. Brackets can vary but they are easy to change with just 2 screws to loosen.

Q: Does this unit run off 120v and use battery for backup? or run off battery and use 120v incase of battery failure? have read both scenarios, noone seems to know.

1 Answer
  • A: This alarm uses 120VAC from the house to operate. The lithium battery is a backup that will last about two weeks without power and sound the alarm for 4 hours if something was detected (ULC requirement).

Q: we have 3 of these units in a 1 year + 1 month old home. Three nights in a row one of these units started going - all about the same time: 6:40 pm. No reason, and then put back up and is quiet until next night, same time .. wazzup with that?! tks

  • A: There are many reasons for an ionization alarm to chirp. Please see the possibilities below. PLEASE NOTE! if the alarm is chirping due to one of these condition and you press the hush button, the unit will silence for 24 hours, at which point it will verify if the fault condition from the first time is still present. If so, it will chirp again. 1. The smoke alarm sensing chamber may be dirty. Dust and insects can collect in the sensing chamber of the alarm. An accumulation of dust in the sensing chamber can cause the unit to chirp. It is good practice to clean the smoke alarm when you change the battery. Static electricity from the ac quick connector attracts dust and can cause false alarms. Cleaning smoke alarms: To clean your alarm, remove it from the mounting bracket. You can clean the interior of your alarm (sensing chamber) by using compressed air or a vacuum cleaner hose and blowing or vacuuming through the openings around the perimeter of the alarm. The outside of the alarm can be wiped with a damp cloth. After cleaning, reinstall your alarm, verify the green LED is on and test your alarm by using the Test Button. If cleaning does not restore the alarm to normal operation, the alarm should be replaced. 2. Check environmental conditions:  Humidity, steam and condensation can cause false alarms. Causes of condensation are:  Extreme or rapid temperatures changes (as little as 3 degrees Celsius in a few minutes).  High ambient humidity.  Unit being installed in an un-insulated electrical box mounted on a ceiling beneath an attic. If this condition exists you'll want to move the alarm.  Check to see if there is a cooling/heating register, a ceiling fan or an open window within 3 feet of the alarm. If there is, move the alarm away from the source of the increased airflow. 3. Check the temperature of the room.  Smoke alarms operate at 40 degrees to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. 4. Reset the alarm. Some current model smoke alarms have a processor that retains certain error conditions, such as a weak battery. The error condition should reset when the battery is replaced but sometimes it does not and must be manually reset to clear the error. To reset a 10 year alarm, perform the following steps: Press the test button – let it run its test cycle. DO NOT PRESS HUSH OR TEST UNTIL FINISHED. 5. An electrical condition may be causing the power to the unit to be interrupted. If the AC power to the unit is interrupted, the unit will chirp when the power is restored. This could be caused by power surges. If the chirping seems to occur at about the same time in the evening or morning, it could be due to a surge created when the power company switches electrical grids to meet demand. Check to see if the chirp (or chirping) occurs when something else in the house is turned on such as an exhaust or attic fan, a heater, etc. If the smoke alarm is connected to a circuit with such a device, the alarm may chirp when the other device is switched on. If this is the case and the device is plugged into a wall outlet, move it to another outlet on a different circuit. If it is a hardwired device, have an electrician investigate it. These conditions can be minimized by installing your alarms on a dedicated circuit in compliance with NFPA requirements. If none of these resolve the issue, please call tech support at 1-800-880-6788.
