Very bad product

Home came with the smoke and co alarm. The hush functionality doesn’t work. When the battery died I changed the batteries but it still keeps on chirpping. They are fresh new batteries but still keeps on chirping with low battery sound. Looked at their product page and followed exactly what they said and still chirps. I do not recommend it at all. Will be simply replacing all alarms at home wirh different brands alarm.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not really a 10 year life fire detector...

Bought 6 new Kidde KN-COSM-BA in July 2022 one now dead in July 2025... Units all have MFG date of July 2021 all installed indoors in clean air conditioned low humidity environment. The failed unit constantly alarms and says fire. The alkaline AA batteries in it were exactly 1 year old and indicate full charge under 150mA test load, so really full life remaining. Changed batteries on all units anyway for good measure, same problem recurs in less than 1 day on the bad unit. "Hush mode" has no effect and detector continues to alarm after pressing Hush/Test Button. Now problem recurs within minutes even with more new batteries. Tried blowing out sensor with compressed air, but this had no effect. Further opened the unit to better blow air directly into the ionization chamber, again no effect other than voiding whatever warranty there might have been. Bottom line one of the most expensive fire/CO detector on the market with an advertised 10 year life lasts only 3 years... Crossing my fingers here that the other units last a little longer. Why spend so much for a unit that performs no better than lower cost options.

Pay the extra for the Voice Alert

I have the hardwired option. My son like incense and set off the alarm in the middle of the night. I love the clear English "Fire" so that I could quickly figure out the problem at 3AM when my brain was still half asleep.

Q: Can you use AA lithium batteries?

Q: What exactly does installation entail?

  • A: the mounting plate requires installation of two screws to hold it on the ceiling. The batteries come with it. The manual has details on best location and those to avoid (corners, garages, attics, near vents, etc...)

Q: I purchased some Kidde brand about 10 yrs ago that were interconnecting units. Do you have any that are interconnecting without being hard wired? The old ones have a set of switches that you can code each unit to the same code so they will all go off.

1 Answer
  • A: If you visit Kiddecanada.com, you can see the current list of available models that are interconnected, including the old model 900-0201-003 which are still available (though only compatible within that specific model)

Q: Where do you place the alarm to benefit in case of smoke or carbon dioxide?!

1 Answer
  • A: You should have one alarm per floor for smoke and at minimum one CO alarm (or combination smoke/CO alarm) just outside the bedroom area. This is to make sure you are more likely awakened in case of CO detection. If you are asking about high of low for CO, it does not matter as CO weights 97% the weight of air and really does not rise of sink. It spread with air currents. CO detection also is not about the mere presence of it but the overall exposure as low levels over days is as dangerous as high levels in minutes, so the alarms monitor by simulating the absorption rate into the human body. If you have further questions, you can ask the fire department or call our tech support line at 1-800-880-6788.

Q: If I buy more than one of these will they communicate with each other - will they all sound if one does

1 Answer
  • A: Kidde hardwired alarms will respond to one another if the red wire is connected to each alarm (it is NOT a ground wire). If one unit alarms, they will all respond but only the initiating unit will have a flashing red light and the Hush button will only work on that one.

1 Answer
  • A: As the details section on the page states, this is an ionization smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. Good for fast flaming fires with little or no smoke.
