Product Details

The Kidde KN-COSM-IBACA uses breakthrough technology to offer a fast response to real fires, including smoldering and fast-flaming, as well as protect you from carbon monoxide and dramatically reduce the chance of nuisance alarms. The intelligent sensor technology combines the detection capabilities of an ionization smoke sensor, with that of an electrochemical sensor, which is used to detect carbon monoxide (CO). When either sensor notices a potential hazard, it will communicate with the other. Depending on what is detected, the alarm will adjust its smoke sensitivity in order to better discriminate between a real hazard and a false one. This constant communication enhances the alarm’s overall performance in all fires, and significantly reduces the potential for a nuisance alarm.

  • 120V Talking Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Combo AC combination alarm protects from both smoke/fire and carbon monoxide

  • Ionization smoke/fire alarm and electrochemical CO alarm

  • Loud voice alarm indicator announces:"Fire! Fire!" or "Warning! Carbon Monoxide!"

  • Low battery indicator announces "Low Battery" and red LED flashes

  • Single test/reset button easily tests smoke and CO sensors simultaneously

  • Hush button instantly silences nuisance alarms

  • Unit can be interconnected with other safety devices

  • AA Front-Loading Battery Backup – Change batteries without removing the unit from the ceiling

  • Peak Level Memory – Announces hazard if alarm has detected a CO level of 100ppm or higher since it was last reset.

  • cUL- and CSA-Listed

    Junk

I've now had two of these units give the fault alert after only being installed for less than 6 months. These units are not cheap to replace. Now looking for a different manufacturer to replace these with.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Kidde Smoke and CM detector

On the Kidde website, this detector is suppose to be the alternate to replace the one I've had in my home for the past 10yrs. But when I got it home, the configuration for the hardwire attachment on the detector has been changed to now a 90degrees. I could not actually plug it straight in. It was frustrating!! This is not Canadian Tire's fault but the manufacturers!

    Not an exact replacement !

Not Canadian Tires fault, but the KIDDE website said this was a replacement for our old alarm. However, I had to rewire the AC connector because this one inserts horizontally, the old one pushed in vertically. Also a bit peeved that replacing the batteries in this model requires disconnecting the AC connector. The old one had front loading batteries. I do think that the websites for ALL hardware vendors have too little information or pictures.

Q: do you plug it in into a wall outlet?

    3 Answers
    • A: Not this model. It is wired into your electrical system, like a light. Comes with a miniature three prong plug with three wires that you attach to your houses wiring with marets. Unit has a socket that plugs into this three prong plug. Makes future replacement easy (but also semi-locks you into this one vendor).

Q: CO sensor efficiency? Smoke detectors are always installed in ceilings but CO detectors are usually near the floor since CO is heavier than air. How reliable is this unit detecting CO 8 feet up on the ceiling?

    3 Answers
    • A: To set things straight, CO (carbon monoxide) is NOT heavier than air, it is almost the identical weight as air and so mixes readily, however CO2 (carbon dioxide) is heavier than air and so sinks. For the best information, read the package and installation instructions, there will be a bunch of places NOT to put the detector and there may or may not be specific instructions as to height. Since most of us concerned with CO have forced air heating/cooling systems any CO will readily mix with the air, so height doesn't matter (as long as the list of DON'Ts is followed). The plug-in units were marketed as a quick consumer response to CO monitoring, and too many people have equated the lower installation plug-in as "where it should be". As many have said before, the location really doesn't matter as long as it is somewhere you can HEAR when/if it ever goes off.

Q: May already be asked but looking for an updated answer. I currently have 10 year old KN-COSM-IBACA models. If I buy this model will it fit the same mounting bracket and wire plugin?

    • A: Responding to Canadian Tire's request to assist in your query. Sorry, I cannot answer your question. This was not a replacement.

    • A: Le numéro e modèle est le 900-0119. En plus, tous nos avertisseurs à cablages sont compatibles avec la même attaché, alors le choix deviant ce que vous croyez est le plus approprié pour l'endroit de l'avertisseur.

Q: Some wrong details. The Kidde Model number is KN-COSM-IBACA which has 2xAA batteries on the front (not 9V) on the back as indicated in the description.

Q: Does it only Talk, or BEEP too? Does this unit only talk or does it beep too? I can't imagine the talking feature would wake my family in the middle of the night. I want it to beep very loud too. So? Thanks.

    • A: It has an alarm and talks too. The talking is kind of useless as it is very quiet.

Q: Can the Kidde 46-304 carbon monoxide/smoke detector be linked with garrison AC smoke detectors I want to wire the combo smoke/co detector with an existing Garrison smoke detector. The instructions say not to link this with other brands of smoke detectors. Both are a three wire harness.

    • A: I prefer to stay away from "combo" units (not just smoke/CO), the recommended replacement period for smoke alarms is 10 years, CO alarms 7 years, and most now have end-of-life warnings. So apart from the life expectancy my other reason is that if there is a problem with the unit then there is usually a problem with all the "combo" functions since these are not necessarily discreet components within the package. Just my opinion ...
