Q: Does this shelf come with pre-drilled holes for the brackets? If not, what size and type of bracket is recommended to use with them? Looking to put these in a bedroom closet and use as a shoe rack (probably 3-4 pairs of shoes per shelf).

A: The shelves I bought were I believe 6 inches , no there are not holes drilled in the shelves But the wall brackets for the shelf hangers have holes drilled so you can mount on wall Then mount your hangers at the height you want , then put shelf on

Q: I bought these and though the specs say "not applicable" for finish, it appears there's some kind of coating that makes them white. Will they accept paint if I want to change the colour?

A: Almost everything can be painted with varying amounts of prep-work. Having said that I would not bother painting these melamine-ish coated shelves. Not worth the hassle for the price paid. You'd be putting many hours of labour to prep for paint and you'd likely get a dubious finish. Doable, but really soooo not recommended. Instead, buy some real wood, or MDF (primed or raw finish) shelving and custom colour those.

Q: would this be suitable for use outside? I am planning on making a "Santa Mailbox" to use as an outside Christmas decoration. Would this shelving be suitable as a base, or is it only for use inside? If I was to cut it, is there a trim piece available to place over the cut edge?

A: This product is meant for shelving inside a house or garage. It would not be recommended to use outside against the elements of rain and snow. You probably need a solid piece of wood as a base structure.
