I have been using it to hold a broom for over a month now. It works better than the holders that have 2 ribbed rollers. Sometimes you have to pull the rubber cross piece out to open up the jaws so that they grab the handle.

Probably would have worked well, but I returned it in favor of a cheaper item holding more tools from a competitor store (which works perfectly).
