A good mower
I have had for over 6 years and still working fine and quiet, bot great tho especially for the short duration battery takes to die after full charge, also not ideal for long grass. To be honest, after taking the mower out of the box, the charger didn't work and Canadian Tire didn't help me, part because their after sale service is not great and part because of Covid. I called Green Works and they shipped a new charger to my address next day, not question asked.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Good mower. Bad battery
The mower is light and easy to use. However, the battery lasted only a few months. It was replaced but that one lasted just over two years. Expensive for that little time.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Hello lily - Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear about the experience you have encountered with this product. Here are a few troubleshooting suggestions to check out. 1) When the battery is inserted, the light should begin flashing green to indicate the battery is charging. If this light is not igniting or is flashing red, this may indicate an issue and we would be interested in hearing more about this. If the light simply goes solid red, try removing the battery and unplugging the charger for about 10 minutes and place them both indoors in a room temperature setting, as this might indicate the battery is at the incorrect temperature to be charged. 2) Ensure that the battery has been fully inserted into the charger. Sometimes this requires a firm push into place to make sure that it has been properly seated. 3) Try resetting the charger. To do this, simply unplug it for approximately 10 minutes and then plug it back in and try reinserting the battery. If the charger has been plugged in for extended periods of time, this can sometimes cause the charger to malfunction. Should you continue to experience a problem with the battery and charger, we urge you to contact our Yardworks 1-888-523-5218 ~ Thank you, Yardworks Customer Support.

If you have too mow twice then it’s not worth buying
5 years ago
I bought this unit a year ago 2 seasons of mowing so far. The batteries are great, I love the design easy to use, lightweight durable plastic. BUT..... it leaves strands of grass even in the thinnest of lawns all the way to the thickest lawns, sometimes doesn’t even cut just damages the blades of grass and lays them over. They will tell you to mow it twice or cut it higher but if your gonna sell a product that can’t do the job the first time maybe you should advertise. The let’s mow your lawn twice mower cause doing it once just isn’t fun enough.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Hello Mowed lawns for 30 years, Traveling too fast for conditions or cutting too much off at once, are common reasons why there is uncut strips of grass left behind. Therefore, try slowing down and/or take less off the top of the grass. The following are things to check, if you are confident that is not the case: 1. Make sure that the correct blades are installed on your mower and that they are installed in the right direction. It's possible to install blades upside down. 2. Check that mower blades are sharp and not overly worn. 3. Ensure that height is adjusted according to the height of your lawn. Ideal cutting performance is achieved at approximately 1-3/4" to 2-1/2". It is important to remember that grass has a grain and growing pattern that can vary greatly between varieties. Therefore, the directions in which you mow can affect how well you mow. Experiment to determine the optimum mowing technique for your lawn. If you're still willing to give it a chance, please reach out to us with any questions or issues you have with the mower so we can try to help you. You can contact us on our direct line at 88'8-909-6757 or by email at info@greenworkstools.com.

Q: Do batteries have to be drained before recharging?
4 Answers
A: All batteries can be charged without fully draining them. Batteries should be maintained at full charge to prevent internal oxidization which degrades their performance and life.
The fully discharge myth was started about 50 years ago and was due to the lack of smart charging that is available today. Older chargers used time based charging and would overcharge a battery that was only partially discharged. Batteries also had wired variances which caused some cells in it to discharge faster than others causing the battery to not be able to fully charge or have all its energy available down to its discharge level. A complete discharge would allow older battery configurations to become balanced again so that you could get a full charge.
The Greenworks lithium packs as well as all modern lithium packs don't have the same charge and discharge issues. You can top up the battery at any time so that it is ready to go when you are.

It is unclear whether G Max is a new and backwards compatible 40V technology.

A: I'm disappointed that Canadian Tire does not seem to stock replacement blades for this mower. However, I know for sure that you can order them by calling Greenworks Customer Care (c/o Sunrise Global Marketing) at the phone number on this web page: http://greenworkstools.ca/support When you call, be sure to specify exactly WHICH blade you wish to purchase because the two blades are definitely NOT the same. The Greenworks part number for Blade I (described in the owner's manual as simply "Blade") is 33307486. The Greenworks part number for Blade II (described in the owner's manual as "Reverse Blade") is 33308486. It's possible that they will ask you for the model number of the mower itself and in Canada it is 25282. I don't know the exact price of the blades or the cost of the shipping. But as long as the replacement blades cut as well as the original blades, I'll be quite happy!

Q: What voltage should the batteries read fully charged?
Shouldn't the batteries read at least 40V? I charged up both batteries as per the manual, and they both read 32V. The charge output reads 36V. Tried phoning Greenworks but they couldn't give me an answer
12 years ago
3 Answers
A: My charger output reads 40V. The fully charged batteries read 32V, which is correct for a fully charged 8 cell lithium battery. The correct listed voltage rating for an 8 cell lithium battery should be 29.6V, which is half way between fully charged and the lower cutoff voltage. However, many retail rechargable tool batteries are rated at the fully charged voltage not the average voltage as per battery industry standard practice. In this case, the batteries aren't even rated at their fully charged voltage. This is a bit misleading.
I am a bit concerned on this new information. I hadn't measured my batteries before. I have used the Greenworks 40V tools for the past 2 years and love them. I have a hard time wrapping my head around a battery rating based on the battery charger voltage and not the actual battery voltage, though.

Q: Why is this $150 cheaper at lowes USA?
3 Answers
A: Canadian tire says the price difference is due to currency fluctuations? For the past 2 years or more the $Cdn and $US have been with $0.05 of each other. Even if the $Cdn dollar was worth $0.10 less, the $399 U.S. price would amount to approx $440 in Canadian funds. Clearly the difference is not due to currency! The $150 dollar difference would mean the $Cdn dollar would be back down to $0.81 US.

Q: Was cutting grass and the mower stopped working. Batteries are fully charged and key is inserted correctly. Any suggestions as to why it won't start?
2 Answers
A: Might be a short, water, or debris in the key insert area. If the circuit gets interrupted, it'll shut down. Also, if you've been running it for a long time in the heat, it might have shut down due to over heating. Try blowing out the key area with compressed air, and cleaning the key contacts, also see if it restarts after cooling. Other than that, return it to CT for a replacement.

Q: Will the batteries work with other Greenworks products?
I would like to have one battery set that would work in string trimmers, hedge trimmers and perhaps even a light chainsaw. Are these items available from Greenworks for these mower batteries?

A: The Canadian product battery is not compatible with any Greenworks product you might buy in the US. Greenworks for some reason exports a lesser product. I have written to Canadian Tire about this problem.
