Mower won’t start after being used 4 times on a tiny yards (<500sqft), it’s stored in the shed when not used and has never seen the rain.

Owner for 4 Years Now

I live in an end unit town-home so I have a decent amount of property. It take about 45 minutes to cut the lawn with my 20" model and this mower has not let me down yet. It is good in most grass, but like many mowers when the grass gets really thick and tall it's harder to cut. I have to say though, even then I've only had this mower cut out maybe 2-3 times over the years, nothing to complain about at all. Of course I really need a better blade. I've never purchased a mower with a sharp blade. Only minor issues so far; 1) with the blade and that was my fault, I think I hit a large rock because the blade is bent. I have to replace it. 2) then quick release keeps coming unscrewed, I need to add a little lock-tite so it won't fall off. 3) I need to replace the foam on the push bar/handle that is coming off. The batter is steady until it's empty which I really like. I've only run the battery completely down once. I wanted to see if I could get 2 cuts out of it. I was able to get a little more than 1/2 done on the second cut. I would recommend for any lawn you can cut in an hour to hour and 1/2. Charging takes a few hours. I'm starting to get an odor when charging. It's probably front dust buildup inside the charging unit, no biggie. The bagger/mulcher works great, I love that I can get rid of the trimmings as my dog's hair holds everything, so any cut grass gets brought into the house.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Only had for three years and does not work.

Third season of use and the lawnmower no longer functions properly. Battery still holds its charge but the lawnmover itself works sporatically, and if it does, not with sufficient power to get the job done.

No, I do not recommend this product.

one year ol use

I have owned this mower for barely one year and already falling apart.the wiring for the plug has fallen into the motor casing and now seems to run on high power as if it's cutting thick spots of grass all the time. meaning that this mower is designed to give it more power when it hits thicker spots in your lawn and now running on high all the time. wish i still had the receipt because it would be going back. WORKED FINE FOR ONE YEAR AND NOW NOT SO WELL..

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Does this device come with 2-40volt batteries?

  • A: Yes. Important because one lasts about 30 minutes which may not be long enough for many lawns.

Q: does this mower have a side discharge ?

  • A: Farmboy222: Yes it comes with a side discharge kit(and a mulch kit) that can be easily attached to your discharge shoot when you don't want to mulch or bag. I use the side discharge kit when I am cutting the grass in my alley way along my fence. No need to mulch or bag.

Q: Hello. Do you sell replacement batteries and if so, how much do they cost?

3 Answers
  • A: Coach438: I haven't found anyone that knows what they are worth to replace yet. I have only had my mower for over 2 months, so that is not an issue for me. I do know that when I was doing research for different mowers(rechargeable), the standard price for the batteries were $150 to $200. This is what makes this Green Works mower such a good deal-comes with a second battery free.

Q: How often does the blade need to get sharpened and where would I go to get it sharpened?

2 Answers
  • A: I have owned my mower for approx. 2 1/2 months and is still as sharp as when I purchased it. I normally sharpen my mower blade in the spring first thing before I do my first cutting. I have found once a year is normally sufficient. This is based on what you are cutting and hitting with your mower. Twigs and rocks can cause damage very easily and you would want to have it sharpened when this occurs. Two options for sharpening: 1) take it to a small engine repair shop or yard equipment rental business, 2) if you have a bench grinder at home(as I do) I sharpen my own blade when needed. Make sure to follow the bevel from the factory on your blade so you don't change the pitch.

Q: What is the manufacturer's estimate for the longevity of the battery; if second battery is only used on occasion, is life still the same, less, more?

2 Answers
  • A: Stephan123:From what I read on the Green Works website in the US, their warranty is the same as is in Canada. They back the lithium-ion batteries for 4 years. I was happy when I read this. At $200 each, I am hoping they last quite a while. As for the secondary battery that comes free with the mower, I switch them back and forth so they are always getting used and recharged. It states in the manual that over winter they will remain in good condition if they are recharged once or twice( every 3 months is a good practice).

Q: What is the weight of the unit with battery?

2 Answers
  • A: Hassan1300: The gross weight of the mower with battery is approx. 50 lbs. The Green Works website in the US shows 49 lbs. I can't find my owners manual right now to see, but I am sure it is approx. that. I can lift it in and out of our mini-van with no problems and I am not a weight lifter. I need to clarify an answer I gave before to another inquirer. They wanted to know how long the batteries were suppose to last. I said they were warranted for 4 years. That is not correct. The batteries are warranted for 2 years and the mower is warranted for 4. Sorry about that!
