Don't WASTE your money on thr Brand Name.
You have a 60 / 40 chance of it coming up Year 1, but Year 2, 99% chance of it NOT surving over the Winter. Stick with Canadian Tire House brand, might take a few days longer to come up, but it'll be there for ya in the Spring!

'Insect Defence' Grass Seed Led to Unsightly Lawn

I used the "Insect Defence" grass seed to reseed my lawn in late April. The germination and initial growth seemed fine, but when I started mowing at 4 inches in July, the turf eventually turned yellow. Upon closer inspection, I observed a mixture of green grass blades and brown stems in the lawn, and the yellowing was mostly contributed by these brown stems. Unfortunately, these brown stems lacked any leaves and failed to recover, eventually leading to their demise, just when I had hoped the turf would be fully established. It became evident that this "Insect Defence" grass seed contained undesirable varieties, including annual ryegrass, which grew into grass with long stalks but few leaves. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this product. The presence of undesirable grass seeds and the subsequent appearance of brown stems after mowing have significantly impacted the overall aesthetic of my lawn, leading to disappointment with the results.

Q: I bought two bags of this grass seed and not one blade of grass grew It doesn't state SUN/SHADE etc Has anyone else bought this and had issues with it? Frustrated customer

A: The perennial ryegrass in this pack of seed is very, very different than the fast growing ones in the Sun & Shade pack. The blades are actually really fine of dark green colour , like Kentucky Bluegrass. Unfortunately, it germinates much slower, and in between time, there is no fast growing cover preventing the seed from drying. I find that it is necessary to water 2x per day when 20-25C and 3x at 25-30C to keep the soil surface always moist at all time

Q: Surprisingly, there is a lot of stock of this in the Spring!What measures does Golfgreen take to ensure that the ryegrass/fescue mix still contain viable insect resistant endophytes considering that storage at 21C for 11 months eliminate them (see OMAFRA)
