Beeps even though the battery is fully charged

The alarm beeps even though the battery is fully charged. I've tried replacing the battery and blowing into the vents to clear any dust out but after a few days or weeks it beeps again. Bought in Nov 2022, so only two years old.

A: THE SMOKE DETECTOR WILL START CHIRPING WHEN THE BATTERIES NEED CHANGING, AND WILL NOT STOP CHIRPING UNTIL YOU DO CHANGE BATTERIES.

Q: My alarm doesn't go off from the smoke of a matchstick. Is that normal?

A: NEVER test an alarm using an open flame like a match, lit piece of paper, candle or anything else as it will damage the alarm. The front face of the alarms are where the speaker is. As well, soot and waxy deposits could be left inside the detection chamber, thus making the alarms become too sensate or incapable of detecting anything. The smoke goes in through the slit on the sides and the sensors will ignore small amounts of smoke - this is per ULC S531 requirements. Testing using matches, etc. is an urban legend that is still around from the early days of smoke alarms in the 70s... it seems logical but it does not work. ONLY the test button needs to be used as it triggers the sensor inside the alarm. Even canned smoke "designed" to test alarms is suspect as we cannot guarantee no debris will be left inside our alarms. Do not use it - we even discourage fire departments from using it.

A: With the battery out of the alarm, press and hold the test button for at least 10 seconds. Then put the battery - make sure you use an alkaline Energizer battery, the other brands may not be strong enough - back into the alarm. Press the test button to make sure it works. Also pay attention to temperature drops. Maintain a steady temp and relative humidity level in the house to make sure the alarm does not get confused. If you still have issues, contact the Kidde hotline at 1-800-880-6788.
