Q: Does the test button stay lit all the time?

A: I tried this alarm myself after getting two different answers. With this particular model this is a brief red light that flashes once in a while. I wondered if that would be a problem for me as I am a sensitive sleeper and this is for the bedroom, but it is not. The red light is not very bright so it does and does not light up the room in a distracting way.

A: The red light is standard normal operations with a red flash every 30 seconds to a minute.

A: You cannot legally replace hardwired alarms with battery only units. You could face fines up to $25k per alarm and have your insurance deny coverage. You need any Kidde brand hardwired alarms. Closest model is the P1275CA.

Q: How often do we need to test these detectors? Do the built in built in ones require less testing?

A: Testing with the test button should be done at least monthly, though once per week is not a bad idea - and if vaccuming the area of the alarm, pass the vacuum around it and press teh test button while at it. Power supply is irrelevant to how often to test. Never, ever testing using smoke or flames. you will damage the alarm. The test button simulates an smoke trigger of the sensor(s) and not of the electronics.

Q: Are these Garrison smoke detectors compliant with the city of Montreal's by-law RCG 12-003 that require a smoke detector with a non-removable lithium battery having a life span of 10 years !

A: these alarms do not meet MOntréal's requirements. You need Garrison 46-0016 or Kidde 0910CA.

Q: There is a sticker on the back from 2015 Jun 29 so I'm past the 5 year warranty. When I press on the test button, nothing happens. I have even put in a new battery just to make sure. Should I just replace it? It's not the hush function preventing it?

A: Please call the tech support line at 1-800-880-6788 and they can help identify what is happening with your alarm. They can also review possibility of warranty replacement since you likely purchased the alarm much later than that date (takes time to travel to the stores from the manufacturing plant). Please have your alarm with you.

Q: Can you give the dimensions of this? I want to know if it will fit on the existing wall mounting.

A: These alarms have a 5 inch diameter. We highly recommend you install the new brackets regardless just to make sure the fit is perfect no matter what. They are easy to change since only two screws needs to be undone and put back up (new ones come with the units as well).
