It's a cheap, poorly designed rusty piece of junk

Garrison High-Security Steel Padlock, #046-1220-2. Be prepared for a lock that you may need to just throw away after it rusts out and no longer opens requiring major effort to get it open. I bought this lock 2 years ago and used it to secure my boat. Went to open it this weekend and noticed rust around the bottom key area. Inserted key, wouldn't turn. WD-40 1/2 hour, still no luck, lots of rusty oil from inside dripping out. Finally took a torch to heat it up, this worked, key finally turned. Looked inside and noticed the ball bearings used to secure the hasp are made of STEEL only which easily rust causing the difficulty to open especially if you leave the lock outside and don't open it regularly. It's a cheap, poorly designed lock and not good for weather unprotected outside use, would be good for inside or weather protected outside use only. Hope this helps, good luck.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Expensive piece of jewelry

I bought this based on the reviews and the high security feature. It boasts having a pinhole for water drainage. Now the lock has been on for about 8 months and I need to unlock the gate it's seized up and doesnt open with rust along the bottom.... tested it many times initially just fine and now we're going to have to pay to cut it off... terrible.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Easy to open padlock. Not secure.

This padlock is priced like a good one but is a very low security and quality one. It is a copy of a decades old design with a well known security flaw allowing to open it with a basic tool nearly as easily as with a normal key. The body it not made of hardened still even if "HARDENED" is engraved in very large letters at the back of the body. The shackle is hardened steel but not a boron carbide alloy, making it easy to cut compared to other products in this price range. The lock uses very badly manufactured pins making it very easy to pick. I recommend to stay away from this padlock, and replace it immediately if you own one.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Looks can be deceiving…

Not certain how to rate this because the padlock available at CT stores under this Product # is not the padlock being depicted. The item available in store is a Garrison branded padlock. It sports a 64 mm wide, hardened, solid-steel body with a 1.25 inch shackle. It appears to employ a five-pin tumbler and includes three keys. The shackle is stamped “HARDENED” but I suspect it is not boron alloy. The Garrison padlock’s packaging makes no mention of being suitable for “High-Security” or “heavy-duty contractor grade” applications. The Garrison product is quite beefy but I can’t state with certainty that it’s any better or worse than the Guard Security padlock being depicted.

No, I do not recommend this product.
