Q: Can it be placed on a wall close to the floor?

3 Answers
  • A: I do not see why not. That said, I placed mine on the ceilings, one in the upstairs hallway, the other one relatively close to the furnace...

Q: Compatible with Kidde BN-COSM-IBACA wired housing? Mine has male prongs on the back that clip into a female wire plug in the ceiling.

  • A: I have been with the Fire Drpt. For 20+ years. If you are replacing a wired Smoke/ Co alarm. You have to replace it with another wired smoke/Co alarm. You cannot downgrade to just a battery smoke/co alarm. The wired alarm should have a battery backup in the event of a power outage. If you replace a garrison with Kidde. That is fine but you will have to replace the plate that it connects to. The plates for the most part are not compatible with other manufactures. Hopefully that answers your question. If you need further assistance please call your local FD for assistance. There is no charge and they are happy to answers your questions.

Q: If this device comes "With 10-Year Sealed Battery", why does it also need AA batteries? What does the 10-year battery do?

2 Answers
  • A: The 10 year sealed battery is for the Carbon Monoxide and the replacement batteries are for the fire alarm. This alarm has two functions to it.

Q: Is this unit easily portable? I would like to take it with me between 2 work environments, and both places I would put it would not have access to a wall outlet. Does it meet these specifications?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello. This unit is only rated for residential environments and has to be exposed to carbon monoxide for minutes to hours depending on the level of carbon monoxide before the alarm will go off.  It is not rated for commercial environments. It is also a smoke alarm and has to be properly installed on the ceiling or, if the ceiling is flat, on the wall within a foot of the ceiling to detect smoke.  This would not be the right alarm for this application.  We don't make an alarm for what you are trying to do.
