    Garmin 5cv is amazing

Exactly what I was looking for. My older hummingbird helix 5 would not show arches. This fish finder shows the arches and has a nice contour mapping setting which I absolutely am impressed with. If you're looking for a fish finder with very little setup straight out of the box this is the one

    Questions

Q: My old Garmin was the Echomap 70s but it has unfortunately broken, but the transducer is still perfectly fine. Do you know if the transducer for the 70s will be compatible with this fish finder?

    • Garmin Canada

A: Hi Nicolas, yes it’s possible - the transducer that came with your 70s is a 6-pin and the Striker Vivid 5cv requires a 4-pin. There is a 6-pin to 4-pin adapter, Garmin part number 010-11615-00. With all that said, the transducer included with the Striker Vivid 5cv will perform better and add ClearVu down-imaging!

Q: What does built in Quickdraw Contour mapping mean ?

    2 Answers
    • A: As you travel with the boat and fish finder at slower speeds, it uses the GPS to find you position and uses the transducer to measure the depth of the lake under your boat. It builds a map of the bottom of the lake and stores it into memory for future use. I believe it can record 2 million acres of lake bottom in the memory. Anywhere you are trolling, it will build a contour map of the lake bottom.

Q: Will the Garmin Striker continue to show the bottom contour at speeds up to 40mph?

    1 Answer
    • A: Hello. Though it is possible that a transom-mounted transducer can read at that speed, cavitation (air bubbles in the water) will most likely make this impossible.

Q: Does it come with live scope? If it does how do I get it to work with live scope.

    1 Answer
    • Garmin Canada

A: Hi Austin, The Striker Series is not compatible with LiveScope sonar. To use LiveScope, you'd require the LiveScope system as well as a compatible ECHOMAP or GPSMAP unit, 7" and above.

Q: Can you get maps for the unit for the bays you are in

    1 Answer
    • Garmin Canada

A: Hi Randy, You are not able to purchase mapping for a Striker Series unit as it does not have a memory card to support add-on mapping. However, the Striker series offers a feature called Garmin Quickdraw Contours which allows you to create your own HD contour mapping using your Striker and the included transducer. This process happens LIVE and is saved as you go, right on the unit with no delays. You can read more about Quickdraw contours here: https://buy.garmin.com/en-CA/CA/p/543340 If you are looking for a unit with preloaded mapping you may want to check out the Garmin ECHOMAP UHD Series.
