Neither unit worked. Battery sleeve too snug with batteries in it. Practically have to destroy the unit to remove batteries. Switch broke on first use of one of the units. Don't waste your gas and time on this product.

Q: how long do the batteries lasts with the unit flashing?

A: I tested with the "Energy Pro" batteries included with the unit. When I powered one up it was really bright and I was expecting maybe 15-20 minutes. Left it running on the kitchen counter so I would know what to expect. After an hour the flash rate slowed down a bit but still really bright. At two hours it seemed dimmer but still bright enough to be effective. Somewhere between 2 hours and 2-1/2 hours it stopped flashing. So I'm pretty impressed.

Q: I assume the base detaches? How tall are these once assembled and placed on a surface?

A: Yes, the base does detach. The flare without base is 7 ¼” inches The flare on its base is 8 ¼” inches
