EZ Lock for the win

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using EZ Lock for a few years and think it's great. With the screw-type mandrels, there have been a lot of times I didn't bother to use the rotary tool just because of the hassle of the set-up, particularly for a quick job, but with how easy and quick it is to use the EZ Lock mandrels, I get more usage out of my rotary tool (current one is a Dremel 4300) than without EZ Lock. My only complaint is that the spring is a part that wears and it holds the discs with less tension over time. But, the trade-off of a much easier to use mandrel is worth it. Especially when it comes to some of the stuff I do with my Dremel, I'm swapping accessories around some, so being able to quickly change between a cutting disc to a sanding disc or to a different sanding grit or from a grinding disc to sanding disc when I've been doing work on small metal parts ... So, I can live with the spring wearing out. I just hadn't really considered it when I got my first EZ Lock mandrel. And, while there is some loss of tension with initial wear-in of the spring, after it gets to that point, it holds pretty steady for a while, so it's not like I'm going through a lot of these. Overall, I'm sticking with the EZ Lock system and don't bother with the older style anymore. For me, it's one of the small things that makes a big difference.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Dremel EZ Lock Mandrel

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Dremel EZ Lock Mandrel (EZ402) makes switching Dremel attachments quite fast and easy when EZ Lock attachments are used. It does take a little practice to find a good grip to pull back the lock, but once this is mastered it becomes quite easy.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Is this compatible with the Mastercraft rotary tool?

1 Answer
  • A: The 12V Mastercraft has a 1/8th collet and the 1.5 A MC tool has three collets sized 1/16, 3/32 and 1/8”. The Dremel accessory EZ402 Lock Mandrel does have a 1/8 collet and will be compatible with both tools.
