Nice round carving bit with longer life

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bit works well for carving in wood. Not much flexibility to shape. Removes material as shown in image. Tended to clog more with plastic, but not as much as the regular bits. Not sure if it was related to tool speed. Did notice some wear on the small tines after dropping the bit.

No, I do not recommend this product.

A very different and useful bit

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was sent this free for a review. I'm a little late due to the time of year, condition of my shop & other projects going on. In any event, these are cool looking rotary tool bits with all the nasty looking little spikes and the color they are coated with - not a bit you would accidentally want to touch while in operation. I had no project to use these on but did "play" with them on various pieces of hard & soft wood I had on hand. Also tried them with some Dermel low power rechargeable battery tools and high powered plug-in tools. Using the low power tools these bits worked nicely to clean or slowly shave off the surface of the woods; good for more delicate shaping. With the more powerful tools you could do the same thing plus more intense/faster wood shaping/carving. Thought that all these little spikes on the bits would grab and remove material to fast and maybe also be a bit hard to control, but they worked easily and smoothly. These would make a good addition to anyone's bit collection for woodworking.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Effective Bit for Removing Material

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The bit has a pretty aggressive, spiky appearance, so I expected it to remove material pretty effectively. I grabbed a piece of scrap wood to test it on, and found out that it does a pretty good job of that. What I was surprised by was how effortlessly this tool actually carved into/through the wood. And even though the bit has a pretty aggressive appearance, it actually leaves behind a smoother surface than I'd expected. Finer detail work might still require some additional finishing after the fact, but it really doesn't leave as rough of a surface I'd expected. Like I said, this bit does a pretty great job of removing material on it's own. If you were looking to do some finer detail work, you might want to also consider the 9952 tapered tip carving bit. I opted to get both, and am glad I did. These bits are going to be a great addition to my tool arsenal.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Need a good bit for wood carving? Here you go!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are really nice bits. I did a little wood carving with it to see how it works on some soft pine. It made really quick work and I'd highly recommend them. I don't do a lot of wood carving, but when I do, I would much rather use a tool like a Dremel... as they say work smarter not harder!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great Little Bit!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been wood carving off and on for years and have been waiting for Dremel to create a bit such as this. For years I've had to buy other brands to get the job done, but no longer! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the 9951 ball shaped bit. It hogs the wood off during rough outs and definitely decreases the time it takes to get from a chunk of wood to a shape that's manageable. Compared to the other similar bits I own, the grit seems to be a mid range between the coarse and fine which will fit in well with what I have. After carving with the bit for a couple hours, I would say that it didn't skip a beat and is as sharp and effective as when I got it out of the packaging. I could find no faults with the 9951 ball shaped bit and hope that we get multiple sizes and similar products in the future! Just make sure to keep your hands out of the way, this thing will do some damage. All and all, a great product!

Yes, I recommend this product.
