Briggs & Stratton 8000/10000 Watt Portable Gas Generator with Electric Start includes CO Guard

Excellent machine. Easy to start.

Overall met my expectations with one glitch and a couple of mehhhs. Only had it for two or three weeks so limited experience so far. Came disassembled ( partially )..had to install wheels and something else; nothing too involved. First problem appeared when I went to start it. It is battery supported but when I turned the key to start nothing happened. Tried a number of times. After some sleuthing in the manual and checking wires I found one of the wires from the battery was not connected. Aaah...reconnected it and it stated without problem and ran well. I don't know if the disconnection was done at the factory deliberately to prevent drainage from the battery or to prevent some other problem but if it were done at the factory they should throw a tag on that line to alert buyer /user to reconnect it during assembly. ( I did later see it "identified" in the schematics of the "quick start" guide so my bad on that ) Two not significant mehhs 1) most things useful for operation are labeled but not the battery position ( I will probably make a label myself just in case someone else wants to use the generator ). 2) The fuel control valve, in my opinion, is a little small and could use a plastic or metal plate with the "on" and "off" positions clearly marked. The gas cap was really tight when I first tried it and had to use an oil filter strap to get it loosened off; it will probably loosen up with use over time. It seems well built overall. I bought the unit on sale at a substantial discount so that figured fairly prominently in the choice and as well small engine repairman recommended B&S more than some others on the basis that parts would be / are generally easier to obtain. Weighs about 110 kg ? ( or more ). I bought the unit as primarily for emergency house backup. I can't speak to some of the technical issues as this is the first generator I have bought or used.

We have not used this product as yet, but have peace of mind with any power outages in future, especially now we're in Atlantic Hurricane Season. It was easy to assemble and Briggs and Stratton is a quality brand.

Bought the generator new at Canadian Tire last week. Had trouble starting it and when it did start it is surging / hunting so badly I am not able to use it. I don’t have a means of transporting it to an authorized service center. It’s a heavy unit and will require me to rent a truck to transport it. Then I will need yo rent a gain to pick it up. Very disappointed.
