I bought this same one several years ago and still use it. I just bought another one as a Christmas gift. They haven't got it yet so I can't comment on this one but if B & D hasn't 'cheapened out' I'm sure they'll be happy with it. It's got a strong motor - just the other day I put in some brown sugar that had hardened into solid rock and it pulverized the chunks into a fine powder. I use it for grinding coffee beans as well as spices and I've never found it to retain either the smell or taste of whatever I ground in it last.

A: Thank you for your question regarding the Black+Decker Easy One-Touch Coffee/Spice Grinder. Yes, you can grind most spices in this grinder. However, this grinder can only handle dry, brittle foods. It will not grind anything moist, extremely hard or gummy such as whole ginger, chocolate, sesame seeds or oily spices such as cinnamon, cloves or nutmeg. Do not grind peanuts or grains such as wheat, rice, barley or dried corn. Attempting to grind any of these foods may damage the unit. Q: Why does the description say "Black & Decker Easy One-Touch Coffee Grinder/Spice Grinder, Stainless Steel, 12-cup" if the capacity is actually 0.5 cup (according to the specifications)?

A: I believe the 12 cup refers to the quantity of beans required to make a 12 cup pot of coffee which for my liking is about six tablespoons and that is two tablespoons short of half a cup.

A: If you mean the cup inside the grinder, no. The lid is top-shelf dishwasher safe.

A: I cannot answer specifically on sesame seeds, but I used it to grind long pepper (very hard Indian spice) and it worked very well, much better than I expected.
