Easy to apply

I have used it to seal the ends of composite decking. It soaked right in an created a nice coat. However, how well it works can only be judged in a couple of years from now. Therefor, I am not giving it 5* right now.

Not for exterior use.

Has no UV protection and fails within 2 years for exterior use. I built a beautiful curved bridge for my wife and following all good coating guidelines, I put stain on the posts and this Spar Varnish on the railings. The stain has held up well for 7 years, but the varnish failed in two years. I sanded it down and applied it again, but it failed again in another year. Wrecked the bridge. I also coated 35 table tops with this and they are always in a greenhouse. But with lots of sun it failed again in 1 year. I also used it on an interior table and it worked very well. So I would not recommend using this for exterior projects.

I applied this to an exterior wood clock, the finish is very glossy and strong. The clock made it all summer with sun/rain and looks exactly the same. Great product, but unfortunately only comes in the gloss!

Very easy to work with just used a foam brush,it fir a outdoor sign so time will see how long it lasts but being boat varnish it should last

Q: If it has no UV inhibitors, what makes it appropriate for outdoor use?

A: I used this on my father-in-law's wooden boat mast. Being in the elements every day of the boating season (6 months) and it still looked fantastic with no signs of degredation. What ever is in it, we've seen it work great!

A: Hi Cheryl, if the is for a décor piece then yes, it will work however, if you intend to use this product for everyday use it is not intended to withstand constant water. As this seems to be quite a specialty item we would suggest to contact the manufacturer of the bathtub for their suggestions on which product would work best. Q: Will this product hold up in 70-80° C humid environments once applied? Direct contact with water will not be involved, but instead steam and humidity. Can you tell me the Melting Point of the product? I cannot find the data safety sheet.

A: This spar varnish will not do well in such high temperatures as it may result in cracking, chipping, or peeling. We do not have a measured melting point.

Q: Can I use it on interior wood table?

A: Unfortunately, when exterior products such as our Spar Varnish Exterior is applied indoors, the surface will yellow. It needs the UV to keep it crystal clear. We recommend using an indoor finish instead for your project.

A: The product will eventually yellow because of the resin used. However the time it will take to yellow varies considerably. If the product is being used outside it will speed up the yellowing significantly as there is no UV protection. However, indoors the time it would take to yellow would be years, but exactly how many we cannot say for certain. There are many variables that would influence this.
