Temperature probe

I thought this to cook my prime rib roast in the oven.
This probe works excellent as the probe goes into the roast and you are able to leave it in as it cooks. You can set the probe to whatever temperature you want the heat to be and it will beep when the temperature is reached

Garbage

Out of the box, I could not calibrate the unit. It reads the temperature of ice water at 5.1C, which is too far from 0C to allow the unit to calibrate. This will be returned.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: What type of metal is the braided cord of the probe made of? Is it water/liquid proof?

A: I do not know the exact material, more than likely stainless since it does not melt. It is definitely waterproof. I have used it in the rain while cooking on my BBQ/Smoker. It does go through batteries pretty quickly.
