Q: What size generator do I need to start and operate this pump (3/4 hp, 230V)?

A: In my experience you need a 2.5kW generator to run a 1/2 hp pump, and 3.5kW to run a 3/4 hp pump. These are minimums. The start amps on a 120 VAC 1/2 hp pump can be as much as 55A, dropping to about 9A running. That's the issue: the start amps. If in doubt, go a little bigger with the generator. Submersible well pump motors are especially rugged, and can handle wide voltage variations. Franklin, a big name in pump motors, says its motors can start and run on as little as 90% of 120VAC, or 108VAC. Of course, full voltage is always best.

Q: Is it a 2 wire or 3 wire 230V? Does it come with a control box if 3 wire?

A: Be aware, this is a THREE-WIRE pump (three plus a ground). The Canadian Tire answer to your question is incorrect. I found this out the hard way. It requires a control box, included. It's a good pump for the money, even better on sale, but make sure you can use a three-wire pump.

Q: Why does this pump state that it's flow rate is so much slower than the Mastercraft 3/4 you also sell? 46 L/min versus 71 L/min. This one is more expensive too.....????

A: It’s old vs new technology. Our product # 0623539 is an older model being phased out this year, and 0643426 a newer and better version, arriving in stores in about 6-8 weeks

Q: Can this be adequate for a lake. Can we buy a stand to hold it up in water? Thx :-)

A: This pump can work in a lake however they are very powerful and produce a lot of torque on start-up. They are usually used in a drilled well application rather than a lake. If not secured properly they can spin off the end of the pipe and fall to the bottom of the lake. They absolutely need a safety rope attached to the eye designed for this purpose. These pumps also need to have plenty of room surrounding them as they have a strong suction radius. They cannot be laying on the bottom of the lake with a minimum 2 feet of clearance off the bottom. Pump needs to be totally, 100% submerged to operate and cool properly The pump needs to be vertical and not more that a 45 degree angle or cavitation may occur inside the pump casing due to air getting trapped inside the pump. The air is produced from the velocity the water is subjected to as the pump operates. We are not aware of a stand that is commercially produced or available, we have included pictures of one that has been made by a user, and this design works well.
