9 STEPS

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

STEP 1

Before trying on a helmet, remove anything on your head that could change the way a helmet fits.

Ex. baseball caps, big hair clips and headphones.

STEP 2

Make sure the foam pads inside the helmet fit firmly on your head.

STEP 3

The helmet should cover the top of your forehead.

It should be 2 fingers’ width above the eyebrows.

STEP 4

Adjust the side straps of the helmet so they fit snugly around your ears in a “V”shape.

The buckles on the side strap should fit right under the ear.

STEP 5

Buckle the chin strap and tighten it until you can only fit one finger between the strap and your chin.

STEP 6

Make sure the helmet is level on your head.

STEP 7

Shake your head from side to side and from front to back.

The helmet should not move around when you shake your head.

STEP 8

A final check: open the mouth wide.

The helmet should pull down slightly on the head.

STEP 9

Important note: Know your helmet’s best before date.

Most certified helmets last approximately 5 years, depending on exposure to sunlight and other elements. If your helmet is damaged or involved in an accident, be sure to replace it immediately with a new one.
