A helmet is an important piece of safety gear when you’re bike riding, in-line skating or scooter riding. It is important to purchase a helmet that fits onto your head properly. The way the helmet fits onto your head can change how it protects your head from injury. Let us show you these easy steps on how to fit a helmet.
Before trying on a helmet, remove anything on your head that could change the way a helmet fits.
Ex. baseball caps, big hair clips and headphones.
Make sure the foam pads inside the helmet fit firmly on your head.
The helmet should cover the top of your forehead.
It should be 2 fingers’ width above the eyebrows.
Adjust the side straps of the helmet so they fit snugly around your ears in a “V”shape.
The buckles on the side strap should fit right under the ear.
Buckle the chin strap and tighten it until you can only fit one finger between the strap and your chin.
Make sure the helmet is level on your head.
Shake your head from side to side and from front to back.
The helmet should not move around when you shake your head.
A final check: open the mouth wide.
The helmet should pull down slightly on the head.
Important note: Know your helmet’s best before date.
Most certified helmets last approximately 5 years, depending on exposure to sunlight and other elements. If your helmet is damaged or involved in an accident, be sure to replace it immediately with a new one.
