Prevent bacteria buildup and prolong the lifespan of your gear with these easy tips.
Step 1. Wash what you can
Throw dirty jerseys and hockey socks into the washing machine and wash according to their directions. Then, hang to dry.
Step 2. Apply disinfectant spray
Use a good disinfectant spray to kill any bacteria and eliminate odour. Spray down all your equipment, including your skates and the inside of your hockey bag.
After you’ve sprayed everything, lay it out to dry thoroughly before packing it up again. A drying rack is a handy way to do this without taking up too much space.
To clean the inside of your helmet, wet a towel in soapy water and wipe down the interior, including the face mask and chin cup. Wipe away any soapy residue thoroughly with a clean, damp towel and allow it to air dry.
Pro tip
To prolong the life of your gear, follow the steps above after every game and practice to avoid bacteria growth from the moisture of your sweat.
