How to store a log splitter

Keeping your home warm can be a lot of work, but when the log splitting is done it’s important to properly store your splitter. Don’t worry – you’ve got this.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

STEP 1

Use a fuel stabilizer.

STEP 2

Run the engine for a few minutes.

STEP 3

Turn off the fuel supply and run the engine until it stops.

STEP 4

Check your owner's manual.

Let the engine cool completely and clean the engine according to the maintenance section in your owner's manual.

STEP 5

Pour a 1/2 ounce of lubricant into the spark plug cylinder.

STEP 6

Crank the engine slowly and reattach the spark plug.

STEP 7

Remove and clean the spark arrestor screen.

STEP 8

Apply WD40 or another anti-rust coating to the main beam.

STEP 9

Store in a dry area.

STEP 10

Cover it with a waterproof tarp.
