Q: Seal material I will be comverting to biodiesel and I need to keep the fuel in the fuel tank and lines above the gel point. For this to work the seals of the recirulating heater must hold up to biodiesel (Fatty Acids) Do the seals on this meet this requirement?

    • A: This product is NOT designed to pass fuel through...period. I'm off to buy another one of these for my skid steer tomorrow. They should be mandatory on Canadian vehicles.

Q: Are there any instructions on how to install

    2 Answers
    • A: I can't remember if I had instructions but I installed mine just below the tank. I sloped the unit at 45 degrees to the bottom of the tank, with the outlet as the higher point. The inlet is the hose barb on the larger diameter that is perpendicular to the large round section and the outlet is the barb that sticks out straight long fat tube (parallel to it). I've been heating the tank for months now and it's working good.

    Q: can a ZeroStart™ Tank/Circulation Engine Heater be used on a 98 volvo v70?

    2 Answers
    • A: This technically could be used on any vehicle. Cant believe the "expert" gave the answer they did. This unit is not a magnetic oil pan heater. it circulates coolant directly through the coolant lines as it heats.

Q: Does the circulation pass through the thermostat in the car? I would like to know if the coolant goes throughout the system. As well, where would you mount it? Through a hose or the excess coolant container?

    2 Answers
    • A: No, it bypasses the thermostat and circulates coolant by convection, so it needs enough height differential to operate properly. The way it works, the heater makes the water rise out of the top, which pushes new cold water from the bottom of the engine into the heater. It includes a one way valve to prevent water from going the other way round, so it won't interfere with your cooling system operation. To work properly place it must be placed as low and as near to the lowest outlet on the engine as possible (the engine block drain cock is an ideal location) and the outlet needs to be connected as close as possible to a top inlet in the head, as directly as possible, otherwise it won't work well, or not at all (it's not the first one I install ;)) This heater is well made, I got the 8000 series that comes in a kit, basically a 6-7 inch tall cast aluminum can, with the element, thermostat and outlet built into the top cover, with 5/8" hose inlet and outlet. It comes with a very short, 18 inch power cord (a longer one is available from the manufacturer), all kinds of adapters and fittings to splice into existing hoses, a standard drain cock adapter, hose clamps, a sheet metal bracket to install on the firewall and detailed instructions including good drawings. I got the 1500 watt model to suit my 4.2 litre diesel engine and it's been working well, 1 hour is usually enough. I know it's kind of late to answer, but with the polar weather we've been having recently I've been asked a few times how well it works so I thought it would be useful to others to write about it here and yesterday morning, at -30C, I measured the temperature rise on the engine head. It went from -30 to 0 in one hour, and it had risen to +15C when I left an hour later. Bottom line, it's a good heater that works well if you can install it as recommended. Hope it helps...
