Effective and thorough.

Keep in mind this is ACID! Use gloves and eye protection! I have had it on my skin a few times, and it’s not immediately destructive. Works WELL, but takes time. I like mixing it with hot water to strip rust off parts by immersing them. Heavy rust needs to be removed first mechanically(wire wheel, sand disc, scraper). Gel is great for vertical surfaces. May need a few rinse/repeat cycles. Degrease first so product can contact metal. Really good for pitted metal.

Q: For steel rims, do tires have to be removed first? (Is this safe with rubber?)

1 Answer
  • A: Hello Mr. P. I actually purchased the product to help remove some rust on the copper contacts for our battery operated lawn mower. I found it worked So-So as I still had to use a small wire brush to help remove the excess rust on the contacts for the battery packs to power the mower. So I did not use it on steel and have no idea if it will affect rubber. Best to contact the manufacturer for an answer to this question. Good Luck.

Q: Can this be used to remove rust from inside a fireplace?

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. A fireplace area would be difficult to clean (thorough wash with water) after application of the Rust Remover. This is necessary to remove all unreacted phosphoric acid. Not recommended for this application.

Q: I used it on my bike. Some rust is still there but the rest is gone. It had left a white residue wherever I used it. On spokes, on handles...When I use a wet soft brush, thee white color disappears. But as soon as it dries, it looks the same. Help

  • A: At the end of surface treatment time thoroughly wipe down or wash surface with low pressure water (i.e., not pressure wash) to remove product residues and any loose black dust that will be present. This will also rinse off any unused Rust Remover lying on the metal surface. It is critical to remove all Rust Remover residues before painting. When the surface is dry paint/coat as normal. Water is the only way to remove the phosphoric acid residues. Rust Remover is designed to treat rusted metal objects/areas. It should not come in contact with painted areas for any significant period of time. If splashed on painted areas, it should be washed off immediately. Unfortunately, the “white” spots may be painted areas that have been attacked by the Rust Remover residues. The entire surface should be thoroughly washed with low pressure spray to remove any residues. After drying, the affected areas must be touched up.

Q: Is this product safe to use with aluminum?

1 Answer
  • A: It is safe to use (handle with care; wash off thoroughly), however, it will not properly prepare aluminum for good adhesion of subsequent coatings. It should remove aluminum oxide (white rust) but will leave bare aluminum.
