DO NOT PURCHASE !

I used this brake lubricant on my caliper slide pins and after a month my both front calipers seized. After towing my car to a mechanic shop, I was told that the Lubricant I used was extremely poor quality and caused my calipers to overheat and seize. Ultimately I had to purchase two front callipers as they were damaged due to the heat caused by pins becoming seized.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hello Self taught mechanic, thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about the issue with your front brakes. Permatex Silicone Brake Lubricant is a high quality lubricant that has been trusted and used by professional technicians for many years. This occurrence is very unusual. Seized calipers can be caused by many different factors. Just a few factors include the use of brake cleaners sprayed onto the plastic and rubber parts, the pads shifting out of position, slider pins misaligned and even the pistons themselves getting stuck. Again, we are sorry to hear that this has happened to your front brakes. Thank you.

Not too messy

Does the job really well. Used it on drum brakes. There should be plenty in the small tube for a lot of applications.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 3 of 3 Questions

Q: Using it to lubricate brake piston? Is this lube safe to use on brake piston? Will it cause and seal swelling issues?

  • A: Sorry, but it absolutely is not, at least for slider pins with rubber bushings, despite what the mfr, the bottle, and CT say. I've been fixing brakes for a couple decades and after getting this #22063 Green Synthetic, for the first time ever, I got multiple seized sliders in my (Subaru) brakes. Took a lot of work to get the pins out, and the rubber bushings were so swollen they wouldn't go back in. Now I'm sorry but I don't trust Permatex brake grease in ANY colour anymore (To be fair, it works fine for metal on metal situations). To get my trust back, Permatex needs to come clean and admit the problem, plus show clearly how they've reformulated their product and tested it to address this issue.

Q: Reviews are totally contradictory, does it affect rubber or not, maybe CT should contact Permatex to verify compatibility???? CT posted a response to a question about compatibility after and contrary to a previous review claiming that it has damaged their vehicle. Does CT even read reviews?

  • A: This is feedback that we are already looking into – and we have determined that brake manufacturers have started to use a hybrid rubber that could possibly be affected by synthetic oil. The formulation of this product has not changed over the last 10 years – and it is only recently that this issue has surfaced. We are currently addressing the formula to ensure this does not happen anymore.
