cannot get it to work - do not recommend

cannot get it to work, tried a few times following the instruction and unable to get it to work properly, will try again, may be a defective unit or I am so stupid.

not cheap can buy cheaper on line but i have three in my home for the last ten years and still going strong never had issue got this on for my other home and i epect not to have any issue

Q: can this be installed in standard drilled door for handle and deadbolt

A: The Weiser Powerbolt will operate on either a left or right-hand door and will fit a door from 1-3/8" to 2" (35 - 50mm) thick. No wiring is necessary – it uses 4 "AA" alkaline batteries. The Powerbolt only requires a standard size deadbolt face hole (2-1/8” diameter) for installation. There are two “standard” deadbolt face holes in the Canadian market…1-1/2” diameter or 2-1/8” diameter…the Weiser Powerbolt requires a 2-1/8” diameter face hole. The deadbolt adjusts for either a 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" (60 or 70mm) backset - the distance from the centre of the deadbolt to the edge of the door. A knob, lever or the handle portion of a gripset can be installed underneath the Powerbolt (these products also typically require a 2-1/8” diameter door prep).

Q: Auto Lock Does this lock have an auto locking feature for those forgetful kids? Say after 30 seconds it locks automatically?

A: The Weiser Powerbolt does not include an auto locking feature. However, this feature is available on the Weiser SmartCode electronic deadbolt. On the SmartCode model, you can take advantage of optional/customized automatic door locking after 30 seconds for peace of mind. The Weiser SmartCode deadbolt is available at Canadian Tire in two finishes: Polished Brass (Product #46-2887-0) and Satin Nickel (Product #46-2888-8 ).

A: Yes, it is possible to reset the code on your Weiser Powerbolt by following these instructions: 1. Manually extend the deadbolt latch on the unit by rotating the thumbpiece on the interior trim plate (leave door open). 2. Remove the battery cover on the inside trim of your Powerbolt. 3. Locate the "Program" button on the powerboard and push it one time (small round button, usually red or black, located towards the upper-left side of the powerboard). 4. Enter your 4-8 digit access code, and press the "Lock" button when finished. This will complete the programming for your first access code. 5. To program another code into your Powerbolt, push the "Program" button twice. 6. Enter your 4-8 digit access code, and press the "Lock" button when finished. This will complete the programming for your second access code.

A: The Weiser Powerbolt comes preset with a 4-digit factory code. However, you can choose your own secret personal code consisting of 4 to 8 digits. Your secret personal code can be changed easily, and as often as you desire.

A: Yes. Strictly speaking, any lock that takes a physical key can be picked... it's all a question of how high a level of security the lock has (cheap 4 pin tumbler versus expensive 6 pin tumbler), how skilled the attacker is at picking and how much time they have to attempt entry. Unfortunately, many standard household pin based tumbler locks (such as those that use Wieser or Schlage keys) can be defeated though a process that has become known as 'Bumping'. Canadian Tire offers several deadbolt options that use high security keys (not of the pin & tumbler design) but you are often required to see a locksmith or contact the manufacturer to get additional keys cut.. That being said, the extra effort to get more keys is well worth the extra security peace of mind. Alternately, electronic locks that do not have a physical key hole (rather, they just have a keypad or some form of remote control) cannot be picked in this manner and most electtronic locks now include a tamper proof feature that prevents an attacker from simply trying random codes over and over (specifically, the lock stops working for up to 10 minutes after 3 incorrect code attempts).
