    Three stage snowblower

The shear pin behind the front blade is impossible to change. Load in a truck and visit your mechanic. Does not work better than a two stage blower.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Good Snowblower, but only was able to use it once

This was my first purchase of a snowblower and of course it barely snowed this year. The one time I needed it was for about 14 inches of snow. It started with no problem - the electric start is great. I had some difficulty maneuvering the shoot, but got better with time. This could be my inexperience with snowblowers. Otherwise it handled the snow with no problem at all. It's a big machine and a little difficult to maneuver around but I would imagine they're all like that.

I had my "old" Troy-Bilt snowblower 12+ years; decided it was time for a new one. The heated grips warm up quickly. I replaced the headlight bulb with an LED unit; more light less (amp) draw. Changing the oil is a lot easier on my new Strom 2840, very straight forward. Overall this is a great two-stage snow blower that clears snow fast, is affordable and easy to use!

    Yes, I recommend this product.

I like the machine, overall. Good power, easy to start. I find the chute control hard to use with one hand and the reverse geared too low.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

I have 3 Troy Bilt products in my home as stated in the title. Although it has yet to snow if the performance, durability and ease of use of the other Troy Bilt's I own the Snow Thrower should be no issue. If possible I will post after it has seen some use.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Questions

Q: Should a person who has had a heart attack (65 yrs old) run this snow blower? Can a person who had a heart attack (65 yrs) run this snow blower (Troy-Bilt 277 cc / 28-in Powermore® OHV Snow Thrower)? Is turning this model strenuous? The drive-way is gravel and you can park 6 minvans in it.

    • A: I would say that operating any snow blower can be strenuous. However, this machine has several features that make it easy to operate, even in the 28-in configuration. Firstly, engine starts easily and electric start is simple to use. Secondly, the wheel release levers under the handles are excellent and allow for easy turning and manoeuvering without pulling or dragging, both when operating and when parking. Thirdly, if the skids are properly adjusted, the machine can be operated on a gravel drive without lifting, pushing, or pulling - just follow along. Auger control stays locked on when moving, speed can be shifted on the fly, and the heated handles don't hurt either! This machine is heavy though, so perhaps arrange to have it assembled and delivered by the store if available and store in garage or other location with easy level access.

Q: How do I get it home Can this item be transported in regular compact car?

    • A: No! The box size is 48" x 31" x 32.5" high. It did fit in the rear of our Safari Van with one bench removed. It's also heavy. Takes four adults to carry the box!

Q: Joy Stick Chute Control. Does the joy stick chute control employ an electric motor to rotate the chute? If it does how does it stand up under winter conditions? Easily clogged. Freezes? raven555

    3 Answers
    • A: This joy stick is manual and controls the direction and elevation of the chute with cables. I am in my second season of using this model and have had no problems with clogging or freezing in a variety of conditions. Elevation is very easy to use on the fly. I find the direction a bit hard to operate with the left hand and the trigger release is tricky, offering only limited lock positions. I usually set the direction before moving and this works well.

Q: Engine type It says in the Canadian tire ad this has a troy bilt engine but the picture actually shows a power-more engine which is MTD. SO what engine does it actually have can tire???

    • A: The current version of this premium two-stage snow thrower features a winterized Troy-Bilt OHV engine with cast-iron camshaft and cylinder sleeve, forged steel crankshaft and numerous other power and performance enhancements. (the photograph may need updating)

Q: Fuel type requirement Should I use regular gas or should it be premium ethanol free gas?

    2 Answers
    • A: If the manufacturer does not specify anything then I personally would go for premium fuel. You are not going to use as much as in your car, etc for the price to be a consideration and any performance gain that you get from a small engine through better fuel will be well worth it and maybe keeping the engine cleaner and not having to run it as hard will extend its life.

Q: For snowblowers, what is the difference between a Briggs & Stratton engine vs Tecumseh engine?

    2 Answers
    • A: All I can say is that the Tecumseh engine on this snowthrower is very smooth and quiet. The engine starts easily with the hand pull and the machine is a pleasure to operate. The only weaknesses I noticed are that the throttle is very stiff to operate and the idle is a bit rough if you want to leave the machine running while doing some shovelling. I generally run the machine full throttle which works very nicely.

Q: Throw Distance What is the throw distance of this model?

    • A: I just used this model with about 4" of heavy wet snow here in Quebec, and this snow blower was throwing the snow 10' - 20', with good elevation.

Q: What does the charging cable look like?

    1 Answer
    • A: Thank you for your question. While this gas-powered snow thrower doesn't have a charging cable, the engine electric start feature can use a standard extension cord rated for 15 amps at 125 volts, grounded and approved for outdoor use. Canadian Tire item 060-0191-0 would be an acceptable choice.

Q: What cc should I look for Should I avoid going too low

    1 Answer
    • A: Troy-Bilt engineers match engine power with snow thrower size and features. This premium model is equipped with a winterized two hundred and seventy seven cubic centimetre (277cc) overhead valve engine - combined with the 28" housing it offers plenty of power to move deep snow.
