Does not look like quality product

Just bought and will return immediately. Tells you to use flat-bottomed cookware but the element itself isn’t flat and the pot rocks back and forth. Upon initial heating it releases smoke and burning smell from whatever is on the element (factory coating maybe but not something I’ll be expelling into my home, it smells horrendous). Would not recommend.

The instructions for the MASTER Chef Single Burner Hot Plate (model 043-1200-6) recommend using flat-bottomed cookware to ensure maximum stability, which is an important safety measure. Before using the hot plate for the first time, place a pot filled with water on the burner and set the temperature to the highest setting for 10 to 15 minutes. This will safely burn off any manufacturing oils that may remain on the coil element. CustomerCare

Heats up slowly but works okay outdoors

I’ve used this burner for about four weeks now. It works, but it takes quite a while to heat up and doesn’t reach a strong cherry-yellow glow like I expected. Cooking takes longer than it should, especially for frying. I bought it mainly to cook outside during summer to avoid oil smell and smoke in the house, but the slow heating makes it less convenient. It’s okay for light use, but not ideal if you need quick, high heat.

  • A: I purchased two for this specific purchase during a winter sale and when canning season came, I was disappointed to find out that my pots were bigger than the burners so I was unable to use them - so check your pot size to make sure they are small enough. Also, I wasn't sure if the wattage was powerful enough to bring things to a boil

  • A: Hi Bill B, Master Chef Hot Plate model #043-1200-6 dial starts at 0 and cannot turn counter-clockwise. From '0' there are 3 dots that increase in size which is a 'keep warm' zone followed by 1~5. It's a clockwise motion with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

  • A: No, the Burner does not automatically shut off. You must turn it off. There is an indicator light which shows that it is on, but It shows green when it is heating and red when it is turned down or dialed off. We have made a habit of unplugging it, so that it will not inadvertently be left on.
